Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated, trustworthy and vigilant Detention Officers to join our team. This role is crucial in maintaining safety and security within the jail. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong conflict management skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the law while ensuring the welfare of inmates and staff. As a Detention Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring inmate behavior, enforcing facility rules, responding to emergencies, and various other duties.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records and documentation through effective report writing.
- Manage conflicts among detainees effectively to prevent escalation.
- Collaborate with law enforcement personnel and other staff to ensure safety protocols are followed.
- Answer phone calls
- Transport inmates to and from other jails or prisons as needed.
- Supervise and monitor inmate activities to ensure compliance with facility regulations.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, including medical situations.
- Perform medical protocols
- Ensure cash bonds, OR bonds, and surety bonds are done correctly
- Maintain order and discipline among inmates while fostering a safe environment for all staff and individuals in custody.
- Collaborate with law enforcement personnel when necessary to ensure adherence to legal standards.
- Assisting the detainee workers with cleaning nightly
- Restocking supplies
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history
- Pass a background check
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overnights, weekends, holidays, and sometimes be called in
- Ability to read and write
- Ability to use a computer
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Capability to physically restrain individuals if necessary
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to climb stairs and ladders
- Capable of operating doors and security systems
Schedule:
- Night shift
- Day shift
- 12 hour shift
- Rotating schedule
- Work every other weekend
Job Type: Full-time
