Professional Residential Educator Department: Transition Services Location: Houston, TX THE MONARCH SCHOOL PROFESSIONAL RESIDENTIAL EDUCATOR of Students in the Transition Services Program Job Description POSITION: Professional Residential Educators at The Monarch School report to, and is supervised by, the Transition Services Residential Coordinator and are considered members of the school faculty. Their primary responsibility is to support student growth in each of the four core goals of The Monarch School and teaching/support independent living skills at home. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum bachelor’s degree in special education, education or psychology preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Occasionally lifts up to 40 pounds. Generally works in standard home living conditions and climate. Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts. Works in a highly professional, confidential, and friendly manner. Lives in Monarch home or Apartment Leased by Monarch. Utilities paid and food budget provided. On site Mon – Fri 4:30pm thru 7:30 am (able to sleep during sleeping hours). On site round the clock on the weekend’s school and national holidays, and when school is out during the summer time. One weekend off per month. DUTIES: 1. Operates within the Monarch levels system for identification, practice and document tracking of core objectives. 2. Monitors and implements procedures for medication, health and safety. 3. Manages and incorporates the integration of the Monarch levels System for identification, practice and document tracking of core objectives into the Transition Services Program. 4. Identifies practices and tracks progress on daily living skills of hygiene, communications, transportation, socialization, laundry, money, etc. 5. Plans and supports meal planning and preparation of daily meals and snacks, cooking, cleaning, shopping and nutrition. 6. Assists with support of other Transition Services homes and apartments that includes coverage. 7. Complies with all regulations regarding health, safety and operations within Monarch established policies and procedures. 8. Develops and implements a program of well-rounded educational, avocational and physical fitness activities. 9. Supports and collaborates in employment and ongoing educational programs. 10. Performs primary liaison functions with parents, guardians, and other care providers. 13. Supports transportation needs of Butterfly and Transition Services Program participants in Monarch vehicles. 14. Develops and delivers a daily and weekly plan of implementation that fulfills duties as outlined in job description. 15. Implements The Monarch School model of teaching with special emphasis on the development of students’ self-regulation, executive functioning, relational skills and academic competence. 16. Actively participates in the development of a mentally healthy school community. 17. Appropriately supervises students at all times. 18. Mentors/coaches students with particular emphasis on those areas indicated as most pivotal in the students’ targets, skills, and stratifies. 19. Learns new curriculum models as directed. 20. Supports students’ therapeutic agenda in coordination with Integrated Learning Practice Team. 21. Demonstrates cooperative team skills and considers teammates in all decisions. 22. Sets yearly goals and allows Program Coordinator to coach him/her in the attainment of those goals. 23. Performs other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS Working conditions range in a wide variety of challenges and deadlines. The best candidate should be able to perform well under pressure, think logically, remain calm, and be a great problem solver. Although the position is emotionally rewarding, and provides endless opportunities to have positive effects, it can be stressful at times. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Frequent standing, kneeling, stooping, and bending. Consistent and timely work attendance is critical. Highly professional, confidential, and friendly environment.
