SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is for a qualified and highly trained special education teacher with flexibility in teaching style, ability to work in a highly supportive multi-disciplinary setting, and enjoys small student to teacher ratios. Teachers who apply should have classroom experience in teaching students with autism and other neurodiverse learning styles. This position is a temporary substitute teaching position with the potential to become a regular part-time teaching role in the future.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Texas Teacher’s Certification
- At least 3 years successful experience as a classroom teacher
- Other qualifications as the Administrators deem appropriate
Reports to: Monarch Prep Co-owners
Terms of Employment: Part-Time, June-August
Job Requirements
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge and understanding of students with neurodiverse learnings styles
Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students
Knowledge of how to effectively instruct students with neurodiverse learning styles using research-based instruction and strategies
Understanding the function of behaviors and implementing strategies to decrease maladaptive behavior and increase appropriate behaviors
Ability to use technology, such as Smart Board, Microsoft apps, etc
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Prepare and implement lessons that reflect strengths, needs and accommodations for individual student differences
Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects accommodation for individual needs of students assigned
Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional and behavioral goals, objectives, and methods
Use technologies in the teaching/learning process
Consistently assess student achievement through informal testing and data collection
Provide or supervise personal care, medical care and/or feeding of students
Present a positive role model for a student that supports the mission of Monarch Prep
Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students
Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to student’s treatment plan and as instructed through Registered Behavior Therapy training
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents
Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members
Keep administrators fully informed with respect to conditions and needs of the classroom and of new techniques and materials being used
Promote professional improvement through reading educational journals and books, exploring educational research, enrolling in college courses, participating in staff development activities, and membership in professional organizations
Follow all rules, regulations, and policies as detailed in employee handbook, and follow directives from administrators
Follow attendance policy as detailed in employee handbook
Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and present subject matter according to established guidelines
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
Prepare for, attend, and participate in parent planning meetings as required
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and or volunteer(s)
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned teacher aide(s), RBTs, and/or volunteer(s); Mentor new teaching staff, as assigned
Working Conditions
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; participate in training as required by administrators
Environmental Factors/Demands: Potential for regionwide and statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; may be required lifting and positioning students; controlling behavior through physical restraint; may also routinely be exposed to students that exhibit physical and verbal aggression toward staff that is directly linked to the student’s disability; may be exposed to biological hazards or bodily fluids due to student behavior

Must pass a criminal history background check and drug screening
