Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood/elementary education and a genuine love for working with young children. As a Teacher, you will play a vital role in fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment that promotes the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children. Your responsibilities will include developing engaging curriculum, implementing effective teaching strategies, and collaborating with parents to support each child's growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that align with early childhood education standards
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment for all students.
- Facilitate engaging activities that promote physical, social, and emotional development
- Collaborate with other educators and staff to enhance the overall educational experience
- Maintain open communication with parents regarding their child's development and classroom activities
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education
- Adapt Montessori/Early Childhood Program to meet the individual needs of children ages 3-6
- Plan and implement activities that encourage respect, boundaries and empathy for each other
- Conducting assessments for all students in the Pre-K/K classroom
- Maintaining accurate attendance records, particularly for students in Military or Child Care Subsidy Programs
- Participating in enrollment tours (mornings only)
- Preparing children ages 3 and 4 for kindergarten
- Conducting parent-teacher conferences for children ages 5 to 6
- Supervising children while adhering to the State of Virginia's rules and regulations
- Encouraging parent involvement/commitment throughout the school year
- Supporting, tracking and documenting children's developmental progress using observational tools
- Serving as the lead teacher in the classroom
- Completing an ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaire) screening to identify social, emotional and developmental concerns for new students within the first 45 days at Monarch Montessori School
- Completing weekly progress reports/updates in Brightwheel
- Maintain classroom inventory/request additional supplies as needed
Requirements

- Advanced command of the English Language (oral and written)
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education
- A minimum of 5 years experience working with students in a preschool/elementary education setting is required
- State teaching license required
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and practices
- Familiarity with curriculum development
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with parents, management, and students
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all children
- Proven experience developing monthly lesson plans
- Proven experience managing a mixed age group classroom
- Negative TB Skin Test
- Pediatric First Aid & CPR Certification
- 2 professional character references
- Technologically savvy
- Criminal and Sex Offender Background Check
- Excellent command of English (oral and written communication)
Hours
This is a part-time position with a cap of 25 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be available to work from 8:00am to 12:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Overtime is not required for this position. You will be required to attend staff meetings, special school events and meet with the Head of School and Montessori Program Coordinator who work collaboratively to ensure consistent delivery of educational programming at Monarch Montessori School.

Pay: $24.50 - $26.00 per hour
