The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for providing infection prevention and control consultation both proactively and in response to outbreaks within the facility. This position will also be responsible for planning, organizing, developing, coordinating, and directing the Infection Prevention and Control Program. The IP has authority to recommend and institute infection control measures established through organizational policy and procedures, the Infection Control and QAPI Committee, in conjunction with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern such programs. Must review and revise policies and procedures as needed to conform to current standards of practice or to address specific facility concerns. The IP is an integral part of ensuring quality resident care is received in accordance with the Minnesota BON standards and is guided by the Residents’ Bill of Rights and abides by the facility Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program. Infection control is a part of ensuring the safety of residents and to facilitate the goal of achieving and maintaining the highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident. This position will support implementation of patient safety initiatives for COVID-19 and other emerging pathogens by performing onsite infection prevention and control assessments, providing health education to pertinent people, and serving as experts in infection control issues.

Responsibilities
- Program Development & Oversight Plan, implement, evaluate, and direct the facility’s infection prevention and control program, including the Nursing Facility Performance-Based Incentive Payment Project, ensuring compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations.
- Surveillance, Monitoring & Risk Management Conduct ongoing infection surveillance, review lab results, monitor antibiotic use, evaluate environmental and clinical practices, and identify potential breaches to prevent spread of infections.
- Policy, Procedure & Standards Management Develop, review, maintain, and update infection control policies, isolation protocols, hand hygiene procedures, and antibiotic stewardship programs in accordance with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Staff Training & Competency Provide task-specific education and training on infection prevention, safety, PPE usage, and aseptic techniques; ensure staff compliance and competency evaluations are completed regularly.
- Reporting & Communication Prepare reports on infections, corrective actions, and antibiotic use for administrators, QAA committees, and staff; ensure timely reporting to local and state health departments and coordinate with external health agencies.
- Facility Compliance & Quality Improvement Participate in inspections, audits, and process improvement initiatives; guide departments on infection prevention practices, support resident care standards, and maintain reference materials to support staff and regulatory compliance.
- Current Minnesota Registration as a Registered Nurse
- A nursing degree from a professional nursing education program approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
- Current Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and emergency care
- Experience in skilled nursing and/or assisted living facilities

Salary : $80,000 - $98,000
