Purpose: To assess students' functional fine motor and self-regulation development levels; develop Individual Education Plans; provide recommendations for accessibility; and, when needed, provide supervision to Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Supervisor: Director of Student Services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MS in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college.
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred.
  • Current Occupational Therapy licensure in the state of New Hampshire.

Essential Functions

  • Assesses students' fine motor skills and functional abilities (e.g., perceptual-motor, hand functions, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.)mine developing recommendations for treatment, appropriate assistive devices, and school placement to help children meet their educational goals.
  • Interprets assessment findings, medical reports, and evaluations from other professionals to provide information and ensure that Individual Education Programs (IEPs) are appropriate.
  • Develops IEPs, interventions, and educational materials to remediate the purpose of remediating students' functional motor skill deficits related to accessing their IEP, making accommodations, modifying materials and equipment, teaching compensatory strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements to help children meet their educational goals.
  • Provides direct occupational therapy service and consultation to develop students' functional motor, self-regulation, and daily living skills in compliance with established goals and objectives and help children meet their educational goals.
  • Identifies environmental barriers and appropriate solutions to remove students' obstacles with fine motor or sensory integration limitations and identify appropriate assistive technology.
  • Administers occupational therapy procedures and modalities to achieve IEP objectives.
  • Consult with students, teachers, parents, team members, other personnel, and outside professionals to provide information, develop plans for services, make recommendations, coordinate occupational therapy services with those of different disciplines, and help children meet their educational goals.
  • Directs the work of assigned licensed occupational therapy assistants (to meet state of New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Practice Act standards) and other support staff to provide guidance, supervise the implementation of programs, and ensure progress on IEP goals and objectives.
  • Instructs students, staff, and parents to provide information on medical/behavioral attributes, use of assistive devices, and implement plans for remediation of functional limitations and help children meet their educational goals
  • Collaborates with a variety of groups and individuals (e.g., parents, teachers, physicians, administration, team members, maintenance personnel, other professionals, etc.) for student assessment, program development and maintenance, sharing information, addressing concerns, resolving issues, and providing services in compliance with established special education regulations.
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g., parents, teachers, staff, students, etc.) to provide appropriate information and referrals.
  • Prepares necessary written materials (e.g., activity logs, evaluations, progress notes, correspondence, memos, Medicaid billings, etc.) to document activities, provide written reference, and conveying information to help children meet their educational goals.
  • Maintain files and records (e.g., progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, IEPs, etc.) to ensure information is available as required for reference and compliance.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g., training, IEP, team meetings, etc.) to convey and gather information.
  • Researches resources and methods (e.g., evidence-based intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) to determine the appropriate approach to assess and address students' functional and educational goals and needs.
  • Perform site visits at multiple schools and worksites, including home visits to assess student needs, implement educational programs, and provide direct therapy, interventions, and assistance as required and help children meet their academic and social goals.
  • Transports supplies and equipment to various sites to ensure the availability of items as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned as agreed upon between the Occupational Therapist and the supervisor.
