Purpose: The primary purposes of the Building and Grounds Worker are maintaining attractive facilities, performing custodial duties, and overall building and grounds maintenance and repair.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Skills:
- Operating a variety of equipment used in industrial maintenance, including electrical cleaning equipment, common or hand tools, etc.
Adhering to safety practices.
Knowledge:
- Methods in industrial cleaning.
- General maintenance and repair methods.
- Safety practices/procedures.
- Tools and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance.
- Basic tools utilized in building maintenance.
Safety techniques and procedures.
Abilities:
- Adapting to changing work priorities.
- Communicating with diverse groups.
- Meeting deadlines and schedules.
- Working as part of a team.
- Working with constant interruptions.
- Understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions.
- Make routine decisions independently.
- Sustain long periods of light to moderately heavy physical activity.
Essential Functions:
- Performs ongoing facility maintenance (e.g., stripping/finishing floors, carpet care, moving furniture, painting, etc.) for the purpose of providing a clean and safe learning and working environment.
- Washes windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, lockers, desks, walls, and ceilings.
- Orders and stocks needed materials, and supplies following purchasing procedures.
- Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g., classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
- Replenishes supplies (e.g., paper towels, soaps, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring adequate quantities for daily use.
- Provides maintenance and minor repairs.
- Collects and disposes of waste.
- Removal of snow as needed.
- Maintains outside sidewalks.
- Assists in keeping outside premises in orderly condition.
- Performs minor, job related, maintenance on building and grounds equipment, classroom furniture and facility for the purpose of ensuring proper functioning and usability of items.
- Performs some repairs and maintenance of buildings.
- Mows and fertilizes lawn, plants and maintains flower beds, irrigates and maintains irrigation systems.
- Trims trees and sprays for insects.
- Maintain athletic fields and all district owned properties.
- Prepares site for daily operations as may be required (e.g., opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and hazard free.
- Setting up and taking down tables and chairs for classes and programs.
- Attends department staff meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to safely perform job functions.
- Secures facilities and grounds (e.g., doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) for the purpose of preventing property damage, equipment loss, potential liability and assuring security/safety of students, staff and visitors
- Supports other staff for the purpose of completing site activities.
- Maintains professional relations with co-workers, building staff, students, and the public for the purpose of presenting a professional environment that promotes education and reflects well on the department and the school district.
