Responsibilities
- Perform dental prophylaxis, including cleanings, scaling, and polishing to maintain optimal oral health.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) accurately using dental imaging equipment while adhering to safety standards.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote long-term health.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards.
- Follow infection prevention management protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment.
Requirements
- Valid Dental Hygienist license in accordance with state regulations.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and general dentistry procedures.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry is preferred, along with familiarity in pediatric dental care practices.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining excellent patient rapport.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control standards, including infection control procedures and medical coding.
- Excellent communication skills to explain treatment plans clearly and compassionately to patients of all ages.
