Job Summary
This position is responsible for planning, establishing, executing, and maintaining a variety of health, safety and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. Must be a self-starting leader who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with production and maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with organizational leadership to educate, interpret, maintain, and comply with all applicable federal, state and local EHS regulations.
- Align EHS goals and strategies with customer-focused organizational goals.
- Consistently demonstrate a ‘team first’ approach to conducting training, audits, and inspections in all areas and then develop corrective action plans as needed.
- Proactive approach to engage and intervene in real time to correct unsafe behaviors and simultaneously coach and educate employees on possible alternative actions.
- Provide subject matter expertise on Water (waste, storm) and Waste (hazardous and non-hazardous) Materials.
- Partner with organizational leadership, customers, vendors, and others to build mutually beneficial relationships centered on creating the functionally safest work environment for our employees and visitors.
- Lead Continuous Improvement initiative regarding EHS policies and programs.
- Investigate injuries from a root cause perspective and collaborate with operations to offer recommendations to eliminate repetitive occurrences.
- Share incident facts with organizational leadership and Safety Committee to help create a culture of safety accountability.
- Coordinate and communicate with HR to understand Workers Compensation Insurance Claims to help injured employees find the safest and most effective path to return to full duty status. Manage OSHA 300 logs for all facilities.
- Create maintenance work orders relating to employee safety and facility safety.
- Recommend and approve personal protective equipment for employee use.
- Administer and maintain compliance programs such as LOTO, Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, BBP, etc.
- Must be able to travel (sometimes overnight) to all 5 NSA facilities.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum High School degree or equivalent
- Minimum three years of safety and risk management experience.
- Must be a self-starter, able to think and act independent of supervisor, and able to innovate solutions to day to day problems.
- Must be able to perform computer work.
- Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel, Word, Publishing, e-mail and photo editing software.
- Must be highly organized and detailed orientated.
- Must be honest, reliable and conscientious
- Must have good communication skills
- Must have ability to work with employees and achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance.
- Tasks require excellent oral, written, and auditory skills for the purpose of creating standardized work.
- Tasks require flexibility and adaptability at a rapid pace.
Work Environment
This position operates in both office and manufacturing floor environments. Exposure to noise, machinery, temperature variation, and industrial conditions may occur when accessing plant areas.
