What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Chemist position at Momentive Performance?
Summary:
Accountable for maintaining the viability and efficacy of Momentive's quality control labs. This includes responsibility for test equipment / instrumentation and methodology, as well as being the primary responder to anomalies in test results.
Responsibilities Include:
Lead troubleshooting efforts into test issues potentially impacting production, coordinating efforts with engineers and technology experts, developing solutions, or recommending/leading quality improvement projects
Manage QC laboratory instrumentation, including validation, maintenance, and method optimization. Instruments include, but not limited to: NMR, GC, X-ray (EDXRF and WDXRF), Rheometers, FTIR, UV-Vis, and production lab instruments
Research and recommend new or upgraded equipment to support QC operations, and transitions to more accurate and/or efficient methodologies
Partner with the Project Engineering team to lead investment projects supporting all facets of site quality
Ensure QC test methods, equipment; verifications, etc. meet nationally accredited lab standards, starting with ISO 9001 with the goal of attaining higher-level lab standards
Collaborate with other Momentive Labs to benchmark best practices, share and harmonize best methods, and support globalization of test methodology
Analyze test execution statistically, makes recommendations on specifications, frequency, alternatives
Works with Continuous Improvement project teams to perform value stream maps to reduce waste, eliminate redundancy and improve test cycle times
Develop and maintain open communication with technology and Manufacturing
Oversee and mentor Operations Technician activities, such as calibration/verification records, test method maintenance, method standards maintenance, service contracts, external and internal service activities
Develop and maintain standards preparation and subsequent calibrations within QC
Collaborate with Technology on new method development and implementation (including related standards, for NPI's
Coordinate round-robin exercises with other labs, both internal and external, and involving customers when necessary
Develop outside lab relationships, obtaining all required, relevant national certification documentation for the QC labs (e.g. ISO 9001)
Analyze data using Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) for external materials and participates in product quality FMEA, Quality Risk Assessments or other quality risk assessment methodologies

BS/BA degree in Chemistry or engineering discipline
> 5 years of experience in a lab environment
Ability to read and interpret chromatograms / scans from analytical equipment, including, but not limited to: GC, GCMS, UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR, X-ray.
Proven ability to prioritize and multi-task in fast-paced manufacturing environment, with effective time management.
Demonstrated ability to develop and lead teams
Process troubleshooting knowledge
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
The following are preferred for this role
Master's degree in Chemistry or engineering discipline
> 3 years of project and/or personnel management experience (cross-functional and diverse teams)
Experience with SAP transactions, SAP Quality Module preferred
Six Sigma greenbelt certification (or higher)
Lead (preferred) or internal auditor in accordance with ISO9001, IATF or equivalent.
Salary : $81,000 - $119,000
