The Headlines:  

In the role of Manager, Global Intellectual Property working in Chicago, you will report to the Director, Global Intellectual Property. The Global Intellectual Property function sits with Legal and Corporate Affairs and, together with the Director, you will be responsible for the company’s vast and diverse trademark portfolio in the U.S., and all IP-related matters in the U.S. You will also assist in the management of the company’s portfolio around the globe, consisting of over 8000 active trademark and design records, spread over 200 countries and territories.

The Responsibilities:

• This person will execute US IP strategies through registration of trademarks and copyrights working with outside counsel as required. Assist in determining IP risk with US brand attorneys.
• Support Volt internal agency in providing preliminary searching and naming support for alc. and non alc.
• Track and provide status on current trademark protections and assist stakeholders in compliance with IP policies and procedures. Maintain database of IP assets. File and prosecute trademark applications to registration before USPTO, including obtaining required specimens and filing declarations of use, as required. Attending to the maintenance and renewal of US trademark registrations. Ensure appropriate process for all searching and tracking of internal agency/service provider and execute the same.
• Assist brands and company in policing infringement where appropriate.
• Draft, revise and review contracts under supervision of ACG. Assist in development of templates with procurement and ACG when necessary.

Qualifications:

• You have a bachelor’s degree with excellent academic achievement, J.D. degree preferred
• Sr. paralegal with trademark experience, Attorney experience preferred
• 5 years of relevant experience at a law firm and/or corporation working primarily with trademarks (preferably with a CPG company)
• USPTO practice experience required
• Record of managing outside counsel
• Demonstrated outstanding judgment
• International trademark experience desirable
• Beverage Alcohol experience desirable
