The Wine & Spirits Manager is responsible for managing the department’s operations, product selection, merchandising, and customer engagement.

Mollie Stone’s Markets, an upscale, family-owned grocery store chain in the San Francisco Bay Area, is seeking a Full-Time Wine & Spirits Manager (Head Clerk). This position is ideal for someone who has a deep passion for wine, craft spirits, and gourmet food, and enjoys delivering outstanding customer service. The Wine & Spirits Manager is responsible for managing the department’s operations, product selection, merchandising, and customer engagement.
Essential Functions:
- Assist customers with wine and spirit selections and provide exceptional service
- Offer pairing suggestions and education on both domestic and international wines and specialty spirits
- Maintain attractive, well-stocked, and properly signed displays
- Oversee the receiving and stocking of new shipments
- Monitor and maintain inventory accuracy and organization
- Collaborate with buyers, vendors, and staff to curate a high-quality, on-trend product selection
- Support cross-department needs, including cashiering and general store duties
- Ensure department complies with all applicable health, safety, and alcohol laws
- Minimum 2 years of experience in retail, with a focus on wine and spirits
- Prior experience in a supervisory or lead role within a grocery or specialty retail environment
- Ability to perform basic inventory management and cash handling
- Knowledge of and passion for wine, spirits, and food
- Local candidates only
- WSET certification or relevant wine/spirits education a plus
- Experience working with distributors and managing vendor relationships
- Strong visual merchandising and promotional planning skills
- Familiarity with seasonal product trends and regional producers
- Oversight of the department team and coordination with store leadership
- Customer-focused and hospitality-minded
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated and proactive
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to regularly lift at least 50 lbs
- Standing: Up to 8 hours per day
- Walking: Up to 8 hours per day
- Reaching: Up to 4 hours per day
