We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance operations at a large dairy and food manufacturing facility in the Schenectady / Capital Region area. The position is fully onsite at a nearby manufacturing facility in Rensselaer, NY.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity within a union manufacturing environment of approximately 200 employees. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance, maintenance planning, employee leadership, safety, cost control, and continuous improvement across the facility.
The position currently reports to the Plant Manager and will ultimately report to the Plant Engineering Manager once that position is filled. The Maintenance Manager will oversee approximately 1–2 direct reports while providing broader leadership across plant maintenance activities.
What You’ll DoLead maintenance activities to ensure plant equipment and facilities operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Develop, manage, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment reliability, asset life, throughput, and overall plant performance.
Ensure equipment operates within manufacturer specifications and established operating tolerances.
Plan and coordinate maintenance work during regular production, planned downtime, sanitation windows, and scheduled shutdowns.
Utilize SAP or other CMMS platforms to manage work orders, labor requirements, parts, job plans, and maintenance schedules.
Serve as an escalation point for urgent and emergency maintenance issues.
Partner with Engineering and plant leadership on equipment modifications, replacements, reliability improvements, and capital projects.
Evaluate equipment proposals and recommend improvements that increase performance or reduce maintenance costs.
Manage spare parts, maintenance materials, inventory, and department resources.
Monitor and control repair, utility, maintenance, and overtime expenses.
Establish maintenance performance standards, procedures, policies, and departmental objectives.
Lead employee scheduling, coaching, development, performance evaluations, and other personnel responsibilities.
Work within applicable union agreements, company policies, and employment practices.
Maintain compliance with OSHA requirements, GMPs, food safety standards, quality requirements, sanitation procedures, and plant safety policies.
Stay current on maintenance best practices and applicable mechanical and electrical regulations and codes.
Approximately 5–8 years of maintenance, mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related experience.
Demonstrated experience leading maintenance teams, technical employees, or major maintenance projects.
At least 1 year of formal management experience preferred.
Undergraduate degree preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
Manufacturing operations or production experience.
Experience within dairy, food and beverage, ingredients, or other continuous-process manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
Experience with industrial equipment, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and facility infrastructure.
Experience using a CMMS or ERP maintenance system, with SAP experience especially valuable.
Strong safety background with experience implementing and enforcing plant safety procedures.
Ability to prioritize maintenance needs and respond with urgency to equipment or production issues.
Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and employee-development skills.
Experience working in a union manufacturing environment is highly valuable.
Ability to provide after-hours support when emergency maintenance needs arise.
