This position will be in the Planning and Zoning division in an office environment. There will be interaction with the public at the counter and on the phone. Some travel will be required for trainings and to the AZ Strip office twice a month. The working schedule is flexible Monday through Friday either 8:00am to 5:00pm or 4 days 10 hour shifts.

- Answers questions from other agencies and the public within area of responsibility.
- Prepares and maintains records and reports.
- Signs off on permit approvals when required.
- May supervise permit function or parts of that function; works the permit counter as intake clerk, answers questions on zoning matters from the public and county staff members; determines whether plot plans and drawings meet the county zoning regulations and whether there are any observable errors in the submissions.
- Analyzes and checks submitted rezones, special use permits; answers questions on zoning matters from the public and county staff members; determines whether plot plans and drawings meet the county zoning regulations and whether there are any observable errors in the submissions.
- Verifies fees and prepares cash reports and deposits.
- Provides super-user level expertise for permitting software, working in conjunction with Information Technologies.
- Makes recommendations to staff concerning the adequacy of the submitted documents.
- Performs mathematical calculations relative to assigned projects.
- Reviews deeds and legal descriptions and performs field and office research to gather information on correct legal descriptions and owner of record.
- Verifies accuracy of legal descriptions.
- Assists the public in the preparation of building and zoning permit applications.
- Calculates and collects fees for use permits, and grading permits.
- High School diploma /GED (General Education Degree).
- One (1) year technical, general clerical support work and/or customer service experience
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
- High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- Three (3) year technical, general clerical support work and/or customer service experience OR
- One (1) year relevant experience in any of the following: Permitting, Planning, Zoning, Engineering Technician, Building Technician, Title Company and/or Realtor or related field.
- Certification as a Permit Technician from the International Code Council, or equivalent.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
- High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- One (1) year as a Permit Technician Senior and a Residential Plan Review Certification OR
- One (1) year as a Permit Technician Senior and a Zoning Inspector Certification OR
- Two (2) or more years as a Permit Technician Senior or related work involving experience in working with building permitting systems.
- Must possess and maintain a certification as a Permit Technician as administered by the International Code Council, or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months or hire.
- OR any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
- Cashiering and basic accounting.
- Supervisory/Management techniques and practices.
- Basic knowledge of county codes and ordinances related to permitting, construction methods and materials.
- Methods of land descriptions.
- Mathematics through trigonometry.
- Computer literacy to include use of windows-based word processing, and spreadsheets
- Operating the ACCELA permitting Software.
- Operating a personal computer and use of word-processing, spread sheets and data base applications.
- Performing mathematical computations.
- Interpret technical information encountered in the performance of responsibilities.
- Work independently.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, the general public, County departments, and agencies and deal tactfully and diplomatically in adverse situations.
