Mohave County Public Health-Nutrition & Health Division is seeking to hire a Cook.

 We are located at 450 Acoma Blvd South, Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Pay Rate: Range 6/Step 8 $18.45 per hour
  • Prepares and serves meals which include any or all the following: main dishes, vegetables, lunch items, and baked goods.
  • Preparation and serving of foods are in accordance with established procedures and practices of food preparation, safe food handling, food temperatures, freezing, thawing, food portioning tools and controls, and storage and delivery.
  • Oversees assigned personnel in the preparation of meals in accordance with established procedures, to include, but not limited to: proper use of kitchen appliances including using food processors, meat slicers , knives, ovens, rolling pins, steamers, fryers, and related appliances in a safe, secure manner; proper methods and procedures in preparing, cooking, serving, delivering, and storing foods; and proper cleaning procedures of kitchen facilities, equipment, utensils, and appliances.
  • Determines proper amounts of food and baked goods to prepare based on menus and meal head counts.
  • Oversee the packaging of home delivered meals to ensure portion control, temperature control, and accuracy for meal delivery routes.
  • Serves and oversees the serving of meals.
  • Inspect kitchen appliances and equipment for cleanliness and malfunctions.
  • Verifies of appropriate temperatures of appliances are correct daily.
  • Advise higher level of authority if repairs are required.
  • Cleans, maintains and services required equipment, appliances and tools used during performance of work assignments and maintains a clean, safe working environment.
  • Utilizes menus from WACOG in the delivery of services. May develop menus as needed.
  • Overseas and/or performs inventories of food stock and supplies and determines quantities of food and supplies required.
  • Compiles order forms and requisitions food and supplies from vendors, shopping for quality and cost effectiveness. Ensures orders are within budgetary guidelines.
  • Receives delivery of order and verifies for completeness and quality.
  • Maintains kitchen logs and reporting forms in accordance with grant requirements and food handling techniques.
  • Create and maintain a supportive work environment with other departments and community programs, Public Health divisions, and Public Health leadership on accreditation domain while maintaining a culture of quality improvement.
  • Apply basic principles, practices, techniques, teaching, and communication methods related to the age, gender, race/ethnicity, educational level and socioeconomic status of community members.
  • Communicate and act in a culturally competent and professional manner maintaining cooperative relationships with community members, co-workers, and work contacts.
  • High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
  • Three (3) years' experience as a Cook involved with the preparation and delivery of meals in a large scale commercial or institutional operation or related facility.
  • OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT
  • Must pass drug screen post offer.
  • You must possess Food Safety Manager Certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Must possess a Mohave County Food Handler card within thirty (30) days of hire.  
  • Must pass the Arizona Department of Economic Security Central Registry Background Check.
  • Must complete the Arizona Department of Economic Security Direct Service Position form and receive clearance to work prior to being hired.
  • Must complete the Arizona Department of Economic Security Criminal History Self Disclosure Affidavit with no convictions that will preclude the issuance of a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must possess a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety or the ability to obtain one. Fingerprint application must be submitted within seven (7) days of hire. 
  • Methods, materials, and practices of institutional food preparation and service to include food temperatures, freezing, thawing, food portioning tools and controls, and storage.
  • Operation and servicing of institutional-sized kitchen appliances, equipment and tools.
  • Food preparation, dietary and nutritional requirements for seniors and other related guidelines.
  • Safety hazards, practices, precautions and procedures related to institutional food preparation.
  • Health and sanitation requirements applicable to institutional food preparation and services.
  • Use and care of equipment, tools, and materials used in food preparation.
  • Safe and effective operation and servicing of appliances, equipment and tools used in food preparation.
  • Preparing appropriate amounts of foods and baked goods based on menus and meal head counts in an institutional, commercial or related facility.
  • Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
  • Effectively service, maintain and operate assigned appliances, equipment and tools in accordance with standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Direct, instruct and train in the proper use and operation of appliances, equipment and tools and sharp, powered items to ensure safe precautions are utilized.
  • Fulfill physical requirements of work assignments requiring occasional - frequent moderate lifting of 25 - 50 pounds and operating appliances and equipment with exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned personnel, associate personnel, volunteers, and vendors, as applicable.
  • Understand and follow, quickly and accurately, oral and written instructions and perform arithmetical computations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without reasonable accommodation.
