Job Summary
Treasury Accounting Technician I ->Starting Salary -Range 8, $16.53
Office environment, with a lot of public interaction
Monday through Friday - 8:00am to 5:00pm
No travel or public speaking
Essential Job Functions
- Prepares and posts different forms of electronic tax payments.
- Performs assigned research for the accounting area.
- Balances simple accounts and prepares basic account reports.
- Responds to requests for information and assists with overflow phone calls.
- Prepares and prints the Treasurer Department check run and related tasks.
- Maintains accounting records, complex filing, indexing and cross-referencing system to assist with department retention.
- Enters and/or records data in appropriate systems.
- Compiles and computes data from files and other sources in preparing reports.
- Reviews incoming and outgoing computer data for accuracy, completeness and quality.
- Composes letters, routine correspondence and all documents in following up previous work, responding to inquiries, obtaining and updating information and making notifications.
- Verifies and checks work for completeness and accuracy and resolves errors and omissions.
- Handles cash as needed and cross trains in other Treasury Department positions as needed.
- Daily tax distribution and processing of warrants received and related workflow including revolving lines of credit.
- Processes tax roll corrections including research and correspondence.
- Reconciles departmental accounts.
- Researches information and prepares reports.
- Responds to requests for information related to the accounting department.
- Posts receipts, disbursements and journal entries.
- Maintains the more complex cash, disbursement, or control journals.
- Reconciles accounts and prepares routine reports.
- Research for returned payments and collect replacement funds and fees when appropriate.
- Validates bank account transfers, ACHs and wires as needed.
- Leads accounting support activities including the review and verification of accounting documentation, ensuring accuracy in calculation, coding and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Receives and posts deposits from other county entities and monies received on their behalf.
- Daily balancing of the Treasury department’s receipts, payments, deposits and journal activity.
- Assists with banking activities including running reports, researching transactions and initiating or validating bank account transfers, ACHs and wires as needed.
- Prepares, maintains, and reconciles accounting, financial and other departmental records and accounts.
- Verifies transactions and reconciles discrepancies.
- Verifies the work of other accounting support staff.
- Gathers and prepares material for special reports, forms, policy formulation and summaries at the request of superiors.
- Assists in planning and supervising the operations of a bookkeeping/accounting system.
- Provides supervision, guidance and direction to other team members
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative support experience with which; two (2) of the three (3) years performing specialized support in the assigned department or comparable organization.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Treasury Accounting Technician II:
- High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative support experience with three (3) years relevant experience performing specialized support in the assigned department or comparable organization.
- Accounting Courses.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Treasury Accounting Technician III:
- High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative support experience with which; four (4) of the five (5) years performing specialized support in the accounting department or comparable organization.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- English grammar, spelling and basic math.
- Standard office practices, procedures and equipment.
- Computers and software programs to include use of electronic spreadsheet and word processing applications.
- Bookkeeping principles, practices and methods.
- Automated accounting systems.
- Performing and verifying mathematical computations.
- Operating and utilizing modern office machines as necessary to include copiers, fax transmittal machines, calculator and the use of computer keyboards and related software and peripheral equipment.
- Communicate and maintain professionalism with the public, Treasury Team, and work peers and contacts.
- Frequently interact with Treasury Team, employees in varying County departments, other agencies and the public through various media to resolve complex accounting support challenges.
- Prepare and maintain financial records.
- Organize and prioritize assignments, cope with varying demands and work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Be detail oriented, thorough and possess complex problem-solving skills.
- Analyze information and interpret and apply technical, legal and departmental information encountered in the performance of responsibilities.
- Understand and carry out complex written and oral instructions.
