What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager of Airport Maintenance position at Mohave County Airport Authority, Inc.?
The Manager of Airport Maintenance reports directly to the Airport Director. The Airport Authority seeks a forward-thinking and innovative candidate to look at all aspects of the department and make recommendations to the Assistant Airport Director. The ideal candidate has a strong background in training, coaching, and mentoring teams and has prior operations and facilities maintenance experience. The ability to develop, implement and monitor a predictive/preventive maintenance plan. Strong organizational and time management skills are a must. The selected candidate will reinforce the Airport’s core values of Safety, Service, Teamwork, and Trust. Successful completion of a TSA Criminal Background check in accordance with TSA Part 1542 to acquire and maintain an airport security badge is required for this position. Performs a wide variety of airport facility maintenance duties. When needed, the Manager of Airport Maintenance will perform tasks that include but are not limited to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, general cleaning/custodial, mechanical duties, and customer service. Work also consists of the operation of various types of equipment and vehicles. The position is full-time, non-exempt, and may involve working weekends and holidays, dependent upon weather and operational demands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND REQUIREMENTS
- Strong Customer Service skills
- Repairs, replaces and installs a wide variety of electrical components, including electrical motors, circuits, wires, outlets, fixtures, appliances, ballasts, HVAC components, misc. airfield lights, and building lights.
- Schedules projects and work assignments to provide minimum interference with airport operational duties and assignments.
- Repairs, replaces and installs plumbing, fixtures, and appliances.
- Performs routine cleaning, maintenance, and custodial tasks of the airport facilities as required.
- Performs minor repairs to other Airport owned buildings, facilities, and aircraft hangars.
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with airport staff, tenants, other agencies, and the public.
- Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work in the operation of all airport facilities.
- Performs preventive maintenance duties such as changing filters and lubricating equipment.
- Routine safety and maintenance inspections of all Airport owned facilities, infrastructure, and vehicles, and either performing or arranging for needed repairs.
- Ensures vehicle and pedestrian gate access control system integrity and coordinates repairs as required
- Assist where needed during all Aircraft incidents/accidents.
- Cooperates and coordinates with Airport Rescue Firefighters/Operations staff as needed.
- Understand and execute oral and written instructions of equipment technical diagrams and maintenance instructions.
- Cleans runway drain ditches, catch basins, and drains, and fills holes in fields and grounds using shovels, hoes, and rakes.
- Lift and carry up to 40 pounds safely for a brief period.
- Bend, stoop, reach, and work safely from ladders.
- Work independently or cooperatively as a team member to complete work on schedule and according to quality control standards.
- Identify and recommend improved methods of performing the work.
- Provides an airport vehicle escort when required.
- Pass an FBI fingerprint-based criminal history records check.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona or Nevada driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Ability to operate with proficiency light equipment including, but not limited to, motorized vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, pickup trucks, sweeper truck, compressors, sanders, generators, standard hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, and phone.
- Ability to operate, with proficiency, heavy equipment including backhoe, end loader, and other equipment as needed.
- Clean and sweep pavement surfaces, perform weed control activities, and maintain airport grounds manually and with a streetsweeper.
- Attends work on a regular and dependable basis to include emergencies and operational demand.
- Must utilize standard office equipment, including a computer and printer.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine mechanical issues and provide appropriate solutions to resolve and repair the system(s).
- Performs other duties and special assignments within the skillset and training of the employee, as identified and as required by the Airport Executive staff.
- Required to train and lead employees.
ESSENTIAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to and is directly supervised by the Airport Director.
- Reports to and is indirectly supervised by the Airport Director of the Mohave County Airport Authority.
- Leads, manages, trains, and evaluates all Maintenance Department employees in their charge.
- Routinely communicates with the tenants of the Airport including Airlines, Rental car agencies, FBO management, and other employees of the Airport.
- Frequently works with outside contracted professionals, vendors, and consultants.
- Occasionally works with various City, County, Federal, and State agencies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- General maintenance experience involving vehicle maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, and mechanical skills.
- Physical strength and agility are required.
- Basic record-keeping and inventory control requiring computer skills and the ability to operate proprietary software.
- Must pass FBI fingerprint-based criminal history records check.
- Must have a satisfactory driving record. The hiring manager will review all infractions for any disqualifying events.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Experience managing personnel and processes
**Must complete and pass all airport movement area driver training within six (6) months of employment.**
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience working at an airport.
- Prior experience working in airfield maintenance, including lighting.
- Basic First Aid and CPR.
- Operate, inspect, and service basic landscaping equipment.
- Operate, inspect, and service heavy equipment (i.e., backhoe, front loader, forklift, etc.)
- Industrial HVAC servicing and inspection, such as preventive visual inspection and filter replacement.
- Experience with industrial electrical systems.
- Certifications or completion certificates supporting facilities and maintenance positions are desired.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Routinely works outdoor elements requiring acute judgment and leadership to manage self and employees.
- Works near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes and exhaust.
- Occasionally works in high, precarious places.
- Occasionally exposed to wet conditions
- Noise level is usually moderate, except during specific duties.
- Work may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Must pass an Department of Homeland Security / FBI criminal history records check per Title 49 CFR Part 1542 and be bondable. Must pass a pre-employment drug test and all subsequent random drug tests conducted during employment.
Compensation
Starting salary: $31.96 - $34.19/Hour DOE plus excellent benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, retirement pension, short/long-term disability, paid holidays, personal holiday time, and paid time off.
