The Translational Pathology Senior Scientist plays a key role in the implementation of translational molecular pathology projects and assays at the Advanced Diagnostics Laboratories (ADL) in close collaboration with the Department of Translational Pathology by leading the development, validation, and implementation of molecular and biomarker assays that bridge research and clinical practice. These assays may support clinical diagnostics or research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Lead and manage assigned projects focused on assay development, validation, and implementation.
- Apply advanced knowledge of molecular and cell biology to diagnostic testing, including next generation sequencing and Bioinformatics.
- Design, troubleshoot, and optimize assays, ensuring compliance with quality control and assurance standards.
- Utilize automated laboratory equipment and ensure rigorous validation protocols.
- Determine and implement appropriate methodologies for new projects, supported by scientific literature or grant proposals.
- Serve as a technical expert and liaison between the Advanced Diagnostics Laboratories and the
- Department of Translational Pathology, Moffitt Cancer Center CCSG Cores, as well as other Moffitt research teams and external collaborators.
- Exercise independent judgment in scientific decision-making and project execution.
- Ph.D. Molecular Biology or related Biological Science
- Must have one of the following: MLT (Medical Lab Technologist (Scientist in Molecular Biology) certification through ASCP, NCA or equivalent certification in specialty of Molecular Biology.
- 5 years’ experience in molecular diagnostics, assay development, and troubleshooting of technical laboratory methods.
- Proficiency with next-generation sequencing technologies and bioinformatics tools.
- Strong understanding of laboratory automation, quality systems, and regulatory standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex scientific projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
