In coordination with department leadership, implements the infection control plan and infection prevention activities for the Cancer Center's patients, visitors and team members; utilizes principles of epidemiology to identify, investigate, control, monitor and report health care associated infections; conducts audits to ensure compliance with policy and regulatory/accrediting agencies; collaborates with multiple teams to develop prevention & control strategies and provide feedback to sustain improvements.
The Ideal Candidate
- 1 (one) to 3 (three) years’ experience in Infection Prevention & Control in an acute healthcare environment or state agency required.
- Oncology experience preferred.
- Computer proficiency in outlook, word, power point and excel ideal.
- NHSN data surveillance, collection and analysis preferred.
- Conduct ongoing surveillance of healthcare acquired infections utilizing NHSN criteria; Data from medical record such as clinical findings, laboratory results & other diagnostic tests, patient observation, and consult with nurses, physicians and other healthcare workers.
- Enter data into appropriate system to allow for proper analysis and reporting of infections.
- Analyze data regarding healthcare associated infections.
- Prepare, present and/or submit data for the Infection Control Committee and other Committees, as indicated.
- Participate in performance improvement and/or process improvement activities, as directed.
- Notify Manager of increase in infection rate trend, cluster of infection or identification of unusual.
- Collaborate with Manager to develop, implement, review and revise Infection Prevention & Control policies and procedures based on current scientific literature and regulatory guidelines (APIC, SHEA, CDC, JC, OSHA, and CMS).
- Consult with Occupational Health regarding development of occupational exposure prevention and follow up policies/procedures.
- Collaborate with department directors/managers to develop, revise and review policies and procedures that include infection prevention & control requirements.
- Participate in product evaluation and implementation.
- Demonstrate initiative for learning and growth in the field of infection control by achieving and maintaining Certification in Infection Control.
- Participate actively in professional organizations such as APIC, FPIC or BAPIC Support and /or participate in nursing research related to Infection Prevention & Control.
- Participate in annual goal setting and self-evaluation.
- Conduct hand hygiene and isolation compliance monitoring throughout the Center.
- Provide Just In Time correction as indicated when non-compliance identified.
- Assess environment for compliance with infection prevention & control practices, including construction/renovation areas.
- Perform patient care compliance audits with focus on infection prevention care bundles.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology or another healthcare-related field required.
- 1 year in Infection Prevention & Control in an acute healthcare environment; previous work experience in a healthcare environment.
- Certification in infection control and BLS is preferred.
