Civil Engineer - Entry Level - Spring/Summer 2027

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field.
We're looking for an Entry Level Civil Engineer to join our Walnut Creek or Oakland team as an entry-level engineer supporting planning, design, and plan production for site development and infrastructure projects — grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater systems. You'll work under close supervision on structured, supervised assignments, building foundational civil engineering knowledge and Moffatt & Nichol project workflows. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer to learn the fundamentals and grow into more independent design work.

Duties And Responsibilities

Assist with preparation of engineering design documents, plans, and specifications under direct supervision
Prepare drawings and draft documents under direction
Collect and organize field data, reports, maps, aerial photographs, and geotechnical and hydrological data
Support feasibility studies and assembly of environmental impact data
Assist with cost calculations for labor and materials
Complete assigned tasks accurately and on time

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required
0–2 years of experience;
EIT/FE exam passage preferred and encouraged
Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, including grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and site layout
Exposure to AutoCAD; learning MicroStation or Civil 3D.
Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and maps
Beginning understanding of soil composition, terrain analysis, and hydrological data; learning MN quality and documentation standards.

Physical Requirements
Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
Base Salary Range
$38.50 to $44.71 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.
Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.
