Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Band Saw Machine Operator to join our team. The Band Saw Fabrication Machine Operator is responsible for safely setting up and operating band saw equipment to cut metal materials to precise lengths and specifications. This position plays a critical role in supporting fabrication and production by ensuring accurate cuts, efficient material usage, and adherence to safety and quality standards..
Role and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate horizontal and/or vertical band saw machines to cut metal materials according to work orders and cut lists
- Measure, mark, and verify material dimensions prior to cutting
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and production instructions
- Select proper blades and cutting speeds based on material type and thickness
- Monitor cutting operations to ensure accuracy, quality, and safe machine performance
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using measuring tools
- Safely load and unload materials using proper lifting techniques or material handling equipment
- Perform routine machine inspections and basic preventative maintenance (blade changes, coolant checks, cleaning)
- Identify and report machine malfunctions, quality concerns, or safety hazards to supervision
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S standards
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and PPE requirements
- Meet production schedules while maintaining accuracy and quality
- Assist with other fabrication or production duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience operating band saw equipment or similar fabrication machinery
- Ability to read tape measures, calipers, and basic measuring tools
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and cut lists
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
- Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting ability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Prior CNC plasma cutting experience
- Experience working with steel fabrication or metal manufacturing
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, heat, and moving equipment
- Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear
