Position Overview

Join the Modus Advanced team as an IT Support Specialist Level 1 and become the technical backbone that keeps our mission-critical operations running smoothly. In this essential role, you'll ensure our engineers, machinists, and program managers have the technology they need to accelerate innovations that save and protect lives.

Whether you're supporting an engineer in our Livermore facility designing the next generation of EMI shielding, a remote team member collaborating on a critical aerospace project, or a production specialist in Carlsbad running our advanced manufacturing equipment, you'll be the technology expert who keeps innovation moving forward.

Key ResponsibilitiesEnd-User Support and Service Delivery

  • Provide responsive IT support to all Modus Advanced employees across multiple locations (Livermore, Carlsbad, and remote offices)
  • Monitor and respond to support requests through our Tech Tracker system, prioritizing issues based on business impact
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues for users with varying technical backgrounds
  • Deliver exceptional customer service with clear communication that bridges technical and non-technical audiences
  • Document all support activities, solutions, and user interactions for knowledge base development
  • Escalate complex technical issues to the IT Director with thorough documentation and preliminary troubleshooting results

Hardware Management and Configuration

  • Install, configure, and maintain end-user computing devices including laptops, workstations, monitors, and peripherals
  • Support specialized manufacturing equipment connectivity including thermal printers, hand-held scanners, and barcode systems
  • Perform hardware diagnostics and coordinate repairs or replacements to minimize user downtime
  • Manage inventory of IT equipment and track asset assignments across the organization
  • Configure and deploy new equipment according to standardized company images and security protocols
  • Maintain relationships with hardware vendors and coordinate warranty service when needed

Employee Onboarding and Offboarding

  • Execute comprehensive IT onboarding procedures for new hires, ensuring they have all necessary technology on day one
  • Configure user accounts, email access, and application permissions according to role requirements
  • Provide orientation and training on company IT systems, policies, and best practices
  • Set up and configure company-provided mobile phones for business use
  • Process IT offboarding tasks including account deactivation, equipment retrieval, and access revocation
  • Ensure secure data handling throughout the employee lifecycle according to confidentiality protocols

Network and Infrastructure Support

  • Monitor network connectivity and performance across office locations
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues for wired and wireless network connections
  • Support VPN configuration and troubleshooting for remote users
  • Assist with basic network equipment setup and maintenance
  • Coordinate with external network service providers when needed
  • Document network configurations and infrastructure changes

Software and Application Support

  • Provide support for Microsoft Office Suite and other standard business applications
  • Troubleshoot application-specific issues and coordinate with software vendors when necessary
  • Assist users with software updates and patch management
  • Support specialized engineering and manufacturing software packages
  • Maintain software licensing compliance and track usage
  • Test new software deployments before broad rollout

Documentation and Process Improvement

  • Create and maintain comprehensive IT process documentation for common procedures
  • Develop user guides and training materials for frequently used systems
  • Contribute to the IT knowledge base with solutions to recurring issues
  • Identify opportunities to improve IT processes and user experiences
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for IT service delivery
  • Document lessons learned and share knowledge with the IT team

Security and Compliance

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive company and customer information
  • Enforce IT security policies and educate users on best practices
  • Monitor for security threats and report suspicious activity
  • Ensure compliance with ITAR regulations for technology access and data handling
  • Assist with security audits and documentation requirements
  • Support implementation of security updates and patches

Required QualificationsEducation and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred
  • 1-3 years of IT support experience in a professional environment
  • Help desk or technical support experience strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting users in manufacturing or engineering environments a plus
  • CompTIA A , Network , or similar certifications preferred but not required

Technical Skills

  • Network Knowledge: Basic to advanced understanding of network concepts, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and network troubleshooting
  • Microsoft Ecosystem: Basic to advanced proficiency with Windows 10/11, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Hardware Proficiency: Experience with laptop/desktop hardware troubleshooting, printer support, and peripheral devices
  • Mobile Device Management: Familiarity with smartphone configuration and support (iOS and Android)
  • Troubleshooting Methodology: Systematic approach to problem-solving with strong diagnostic skills
  • Documentation Tools: Comfortable with ticketing systems, knowledge bases, and documentation platforms
  • Security Awareness: Understanding of basic cybersecurity principles and best practices
