Location: Livermore, CA Pay: $25/hour
Shift: M-Th, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Position Overview
Join the Modus Advanced team as a Form-in-Place (FIP) Dispensing Operator Level 1 and become part of a specialized manufacturing process that's as much art as it is science. In this critical role, you'll operate advanced dispensing equipment to create precision gaskets for life-saving medical devices, mission-critical defense systems, and aerospace applications where failure is not an option.

The FIP gaskets you'll dispense provide EMI shielding for electronics, environmental sealing for dust and water protection, and critical sealing solutions that enable our customers to bring life-changing innovations to market sooner. Your precision and attention to detail will directly impact the performance and reliability of components that protect and save lives.
Key Responsibilities
FIP Dispensing Operations
- Operate CNC dispensing machines to apply liquid gasket materials onto metal and plastic housings
- Set up and calibrate dispensing equipment according to work instructions and specifications, changing out parts as they complete dispensing
- Monitor dispensing parameters including material flow rates, needle positioning, and cure cycles
- Perform needle tip calibration and dosing automation procedures
- Execute material mixing protocols for two-component silicone systems
Material Handling and Preparation
- Handle specialized FIP materials
- Manage temperature-sensitive materials requiring specific storage conditions
- Prepare material cartridges and mixing systems according to manufacturer specifications
- Monitor material shelf life and storage requirements for optimal performance
- Maintain proper handling procedures for conductive and non-conductive gasket materials
- Run deburring machines when needed
Quality Control and Inspection
- Perform in-process inspections of dispensed gaskets using visual and dimensional measurement tools
- Verify gasket height, width, and path accuracy against engineering drawings
- Conduct post-cure inspections to ensure proper adhesion and gasket integrity
- Document quality measurements and maintain statistical process control charts
- Identify and quarantine non-conforming parts according to quality procedures
- Support root cause analysis for process variations and defects
Equipment Maintenance and Setup
- Perform routine maintenance on dispensing equipment including cleaning and preventive care
- Change dispensing needles and configure tooling for different part geometries
- Set up fixtures and positioning systems for accurate part placement
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and coordinate with maintenance team
- Document equipment performance and maintenance activities
Curing and Post-Processing
- Operate thermal cure ovens at specified temperatures for heat-cure materials
- Monitor moisture cure processes for room temperature vulcanizing materials
- Ensure proper cure cycles and environmental conditions for optimal gasket properties
- Handle cured parts according to compression and handling requirements
- Coordinate with downstream operations for assembly and shipping
- Execute post-processing tasks like:
- Cleaning, trimming, and clipping of parts
- Installing of pads, dowel pins and stamping parts
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate in English
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1-2 years of manufacturing or precision assembly experience preferred
- CNC machine operation experience highly preferred
- Experience with automated dispensing systems or similar precision equipment a plus
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions
- Basic understanding of CNC programming and machine operation
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
- Computer literacy for data entry and machine programming
- Understanding of material properties and handling procedures
- Knowledge of quality control principles and statistical process control
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods while operating equipment
- Manual dexterity for handling small precision components and fine adjustments
- Visual acuity to inspect gasket quality and read measurement instruments
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when handling materials and parts
