JOB SUMMARY:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the sourcing, procurement, and supplier management of materials, components, and services required to support manufacturing operations and customer delivery commitments. This role drives the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials through effective supplier relationships, ERP-driven purchasing processes, and close coordination with Production Scheduling, Engineering, and Finance.
In addition, this role leads and develops the purchasing team, including Buyers, ensuring alignment, accountability, and execution of purchasing strategies that support operational performance and business growth. The Purchasing Manager plays a critical role in managing supply risk, controlling costs, and supporting operational scalability.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Lead and manage the procurement of materials, components, and services required to support production schedules and project timelines.
· Own purchasing activities within the ERP system, including purchase order creation, supplier setup, pricing, lead times, and inventory accuracy.
· Develop, qualify, and manage supplier relationships to ensure consistent quality, delivery performance, and cost competitiveness.
· Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to achieve cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
· Collaborate closely with Production Scheduling, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Finance to align purchasing strategies with demand, capacity, and budget requirements.
· Monitor supplier performance, material availability, and market conditions to proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks.
· Manage inventory levels to balance material availability, production continuity, and working capital objectives.
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to sourcing strategies, supplier performance, cost reduction, and ERP purchasing processes.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
· Support reporting and performance metrics related to purchasing, supplier performance, inventory, and cost control.
· Lead, develop, and manage the purchasing team, including Buyers, by setting priorities, monitoring performance, and ensuring execution of daily procurement activities.
· Provide guidance and support to Buyers on sourcing strategies, supplier management, and issue resolution to ensure consistent and effective purchasing practices.
· Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance metrics for the purchasing team aligned with company objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Work Experience:
· 5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.
· Experience managing suppliers, negotiating contracts, and supporting production-driven purchasing requirements.
· Hands-on experience using ERP systems for purchasing, inventory management, and supplier data.
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee sometimes works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, and heights. When participating in activities on the shop floor, the noise level in the work environment is typical for a fabrication shop and ear plugs may be used as necessary.
