What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field & Shop Technician position at MODOROLL?
About MODO8 -
MODO8 is a growing conveyor and robotics systems manufacturer based in Beloit, Wisconsin. We build durable, custom-engineered material handling solutions and support our customers from initial build through on-site installation and long-term service. Our team is hands-on, technically sharp, and takes pride in delivering work that holds up in the real world.
Position Overview -
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Field & Shop Technician to join the MODO8 team. In this role, you will split your time between our shop — where you will help build and assemble conveyor systems from the ground up — and customer sites across the region and country, where you will lead or support equipment installation, commissioning, and service work.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with their hands, knows how to read technical drawings and schematics, and can confidently work through mechanical and electrical challenges in the field. If you take ownership of a job, work well independently, and genuinely enjoy building and fixing things, this role is a strong fit.

- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring schematics, and assembly documentation
- Use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively

- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on build sequences and problem-solving
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Field Work — Installation & Service
- Travel to customer facilities to install new conveyor systems and equipment
- Commission installed systems and verify proper operation before handoff to the customer
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues on existing conveyor equipment
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on customer systems
- Communicate clearly with site contacts, provide status updates, and complete field service reports
- Identify opportunities for upgrades or additional service needs and relay findings to the service team
- Facilitate strong client connections while representing company values

- Demonstrated ability to read and work from mechanical drawings, wiring schematics, and technical documentation
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and standard shop equipment
- Experience with conveyor systems, material handling equipment, or similar industrial machinery
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time, sometimes on short notice
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong communication skills and a professional, customer-facing demeanor on job sites
Preferred
- Background in industrial maintenance, millwright work, or mechanical contracting
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting (24V control circuits, VFDs, sensors, PLCs)
- Familiarity with conveyor components such as belts, drives, rollers, gearboxes, and take-ups
- Basic welding or fabrication experience (MIG/TIG)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Forklift certification or experience operating aerial lifts

- Stand, crouch, kneel, and work in confined or elevated spaces
- Work in varying environments including shop floors, warehouses, and outdoor sites
- Travel via air and/or vehicle, including overnight stays away from home
What We Offer -
- Competitive hourly wage based on your experience and skill set
- Full coverage of travel expenses, hotel, and per diem when on the road
- Paid time off and company holidays
- Health benefits (medical, dental, vision)
- Opportunities to grow with a company that values hands-on expertise
