Controller

Modoc Tribal Enterprise Authority is seeking a dynamic, proactive, and self-starting Controller to join our team. The Controller will report to the Chairman of the Modoc Tribal Enterprises Authority Board.

Responsibilities

• Leads and oversees the organization’s accounting operations and strategy.
• Responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the effectiveness of financial controls.
• Establishes and maintains accounting policies, systems, and procedures to support the company’s financial health and strategic goals.
• As a key advisor to top management, the MTE Controller presents financial findings and provides recommendations to influence organizational decision-making.
• Lead the accounting department and oversee all aspects of the organization’s accounting functions.
• Develop and implement accounting systems, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient financial operations and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles [GAAP] and other regulatory standards.
• Direct the preparation, analysis, and presentation of financial reports, including budgets, forecasts, and filings required by regulatory bodies.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to align financial strategy with broader business goals.
• Provide strategic insights and financial recommendations based on data analysis to support executive decision-making.
• Ensure the timely and accurate closing of financial periods and reporting cycles
• Manage internal controls and audits to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
• Approve policies and procedures developed within various accounting sub-functions
• Stay current with changes in accounting regulations and standards and communicate implications to leadership.
  
  

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
• 8 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience, with significant managerial experience.
• Extensive experience managing accounting operations in a complex, multi-functional organization.
• Must be able to pass criminal background check prior to employment
