What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recycling Technician position at Modoc Nation?
General Description: Ability to perform manual labor safely and efficiently by sorting and processing recyclables delivered to recycling drop-off facility and/or collected off-site.
Schedule: Full-time 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday
The Recycling Technician performs work under the supervision of the Environmental Programs Director.
Job Duties: This position includes but is not limited to the job functions listed below.
- Adhere to all policies set forth by the Tribal Administration
- Adhere to the mission and vision statement of the Environmental Department
· Maintain a clean and organized work environment
· Collect, sort, and separate recyclable materials from non-recyclable waste daily
- Clean and maintain drop-off bins daily
- Operate forklift/ trucks, baling, skid steer and other related equipment
- Lift and move heavy items, including bins, bags, totes, carts, etc.
- Monitor and assist recyclers in unloading and sorting recyclables
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks, gloves, safety glasses, etc., as necessary
- Enter into recycling containers to take out recyclables as needed
- Monitor weather conditions
- Answer routine inquiries concerning the collecting and sorting of recyclables.
- Provide customer service in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
- Provide educational material to the recycler/public as needed.
- Responsible for communicating incident(s) immediately to your supervisor, as well as completing all necessary paperwork related to incident(s).
- Ensure work is carried out to the highest standards of health and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
- The position requires a high school education or GED equivalent
- The ability to acquire certifications as related to the position
· Requires good interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
- Requires the ability to lift 40 pounds or more frequently
· Requires ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team in a diverse workplace with people of varying cultures and backgrounds
· Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to pull/tow and efficiently back trailers into tight locations, including loading and unloading dock
