Director of Procurement
Position Overview
As Director of Procurement at Modigent, you will lead the strategic sourcing, purchasing, and supply chain functions across our family of operating companies and corporate functions. You will develop and execute procurement strategies that optimize cost, quality, availability, and risk for both project-related materials (HVAC, plumbing, mechanical equipment, and related commodities) and corporate/indirect spend (including software, technology, professional services, and other enterprise needs). This corporate leadership role partners closely with operations, project management, service, fleet, finance, IT, and OpCo leadership to support profitable project delivery, service excellence, and scalable growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute enterprise-wide procurement strategy aligned with Modigent’s business objectives, growth plans, and multi-OpCo structure.
  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives across key categories, including:
    • Direct materials and equipment (HVAC equipment, piping, sheet metal, controls, tools, and related commodities)
    • Corporate and indirect spend (software, technology, professional services, facilities, and other enterprise categories)
  • Partner with the Fleet Department on vehicle, equipment, and related procurement strategies while respecting existing fleet ownership and processes.
  • Negotiate and manage key supplier and vendor relationships, master agreements, pricing, terms, and performance expectations.
  • Drive cost reduction, total cost of ownership improvements, and value creation across construction, service, and corporate functions.
  • Establish and enforce procurement policies, processes, approval workflows, and compliance standards.
  • Oversee supplier and vendor risk management, including financial stability, capacity, quality, cybersecurity (for software/IT), and continuity of supply.
  • Partner with project managers, estimators, and field leaders to support accurate material planning, lead times, and project-specific sourcing needs.
  • Collaborate with finance, IT, and other corporate functions on budgeting, forecasting, spend analysis, and working capital optimization.
  • Implement and optimize procurement systems, data visibility, and reporting to enable data-driven decisions.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the procurement team; build capability and consistency across operating companies as needed.
  • Monitor market conditions, commodity trends, software/IT market dynamics, and supply chain disruptions; proactively mitigate risks.
  • Support M amp;A integration activities related to supplier rationalization, contract consolidation, and process standardization.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Yes – Direct leadership of the procurement team. Provides guidance and strategic direction to OpCo-level purchasing personnel as applicable. Full accountability for team performance, development, and succession planning. Partners closely with, but does not manage or direct, the Fleet Department.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience: 10 years of progressive procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience spanning both direct (materials/equipment) and indirect (software, services, corporate) spend is strongly preferred. Background in construction, mechanical contracting, industrial services, or multi-entity environments is a plus.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with occasional travel to operating companies, suppliers, or project sites.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Professional corporate environment with hybrid or remote work options. This is not a safety-sensitive position.
Required Skills
  • Proven ability to develop and execute category strategies that deliver measurable cost and performance results across both direct and indirect spend.
  • Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier/vendor relationship skills.
  • Experience with software and technology procurement, including SaaS agreements, licensing, and vendor management.
  • Solid financial acumen, including spend analysis, total cost modeling, and budgeting.
  • Experience implementing or optimizing procurement systems and processes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a multi-OpCo, project-based environment while supporting corporate functions.
  • Data-driven decision making and comfort with analytics and reporting tools.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance short-term needs and long-term capability building.
