What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Hardware Deployment Manager position at Modeshift?
You will own the lifecycle of our field hardware: receiving and shipping, provisioning and staging, on-vehicle installation, and onsite support for agencies. You will keep our deployment pipeline flowing and ensure every device that leaves our hands is ready to perform on day one.
What You’ll Do
Logistics and inventory
- Receive, label, and stock inbound equipment and parts
- Pick, pack, and ship orders to agencies and field teams
- Maintain accurate counts in the inventory system and reconcile variances
- Create and maintain RMA records and handle returns
Hardware provisioning
- Image, configure, and QC Android tablets, validators, modems, routers, switches, cameras, ticket printers, and accessories
- Stage kits with cables, brackets, SIMs, and firmware at the correct versions
- Run bench tests and burn-in to catch early failures
- Document device configs and update asset records
Vehicle installation
- Install validators, antennas, wiring looms, power tap, and mounting hardware in buses and support vehicles
- Follow vehicle electrical best practices including proper fusing, routing, strain relief, and grounding
- Perform post-install tests for connectivity, fare transactions, etc
- Create installation photos and as-built documentation
Onsite support
- Troubleshoot and swap hardware at depots and in the field
- Work with agency staff to triage issues across power, network, peripherals, and mounting
- Train depot techs and drivers on basic checks and escalation paths
- Provide clear ticket updates and incident notes
Skills and Experience
- 2 years in field service, depot tech, installation, or hardware operations roles
- Hands-on experience with 12–24V DC systems, crimping, fusing, and automotive wiring
- Comfortable using multimeters, crimp tools, labelers, torque drivers, and basic hand tools
- Working knowledge of Networking devices, ADB basics, Wi-Fi, LTE, and Ethernet
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and installation guides
- Clean driving record and ability to travel up to 50 percent domestically
Nice to have
- Experience with MDTs, fare validators, mobile routers, GNSS antennas, printers, or camera systems in fleet or transit environments
- Light scripting for provisioning or diagnostics
Physical and Schedule Requirements
- Lift and move up to 50 pbs kits
- Work in depots, shops, and vehicles in varying weather
- Evening or weekend work during cutovers as needed
Pay: $34.00 - $44.00 per hour
