What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Duty Commercial Truck Auto Electrician / Diagnostic Technician position at Modern Shop?
We are looking for a skilled Heavy Duty Commercial Truck Auto Electrician / Diagnostic Technician to join our repair shop. The candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and electronic systems on Class 8 commercial trucks (Volvo, Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
Computer Diagnostics: Perform diagnostic scans using dealer-level
Electrical Troubleshooting: Trace, test, and repair wiring harness issues, open circuits, short circuits, voltage drops, and poor ground connections.
Aftertreatment System Repair: Diagnose DEF/DPF/SCR electrical components, including NOx sensors, temperature sensors, wiring harnesses, and dosing pumps.
CAN Bus & Module Diagnostics: Diagnose multiplexing systems, CAN bus line issues, and perform basic programming or replacing of electronic control units (ECM, BCM, etc.)
Requirements & Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience as an auto electrician or diagnostic technician on Class 8 heavy-duty trucks.
Tools: Personal basic electrical testing tools (multimeter, test lights, back-probe kits, and hand tools).
Technical Skills: Advanced ability to read and interpret electrical wiring schematics. Proficiency with diagnostic software (Cummins Insite, Detroit DDDL, Volvo PTT, JPRO, etc.).
Soft Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and a safety-conscious mindset
Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
