Position: Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
The Speech Language Pathologist collaborates with residents and other healthcare providers to deliver Speech Language Pathology services aimed at enhancing the function and independence of residents in their daily activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Promotes and supports the mission and values of the organization.
- Conducts evaluative and therapeutic procedures per physician or accepted healthcare provider orders while adhering to safety precautions and guidelines.
- Provides assessment and treatment for communication disorders and dysphagia, including modified barium swallow evaluations.
- Evaluates residents following departmental protocols and establishes a therapeutic plan of care with functional long- and short-term goals, specifying frequency and duration of treatment along with rehabilitation potential.
- Incorporates input from residents and primary caregivers into the therapeutic plan of care.
- Advises referring physicians and healthcare team members on residents' therapeutic and discharge needs, attending relevant team meetings as necessary.
- Monitors, evaluates, and adjusts treatment effects towards established functional goals. Modifies treatment plans as required.
- Documents all evaluative and therapeutic interactions according to department procedures, ensuring accessibility and clarity for all care team members.
- Recommends and secures appropriate communication/swallowing assistive devices, ensuring residents receive proper instruction for their use.
- Delivers relevant education to residents and caregivers, documenting their responses to the instruction provided.
- Has an understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
- Maintains clinical knowledge, skills, and competence, sharing expertise with colleagues.
- Conducts in-service education on clinical knowledge and skills for nursing and various departments.
- Actively participates in the development of new programs and services in Speech Therapy.
- Stays updated on professional advancements through memberships in professional organizations and reading relevant publications, sharing pertinent information with staff.
- Maintains necessary licenses, certifications, and competencies while completing annual compliance courses punctually.
- Coordinates and ensures coverage for Speech and Language services.
- Keeps the department clean and organized by maintaining office and clinical areas, assisting with routine cleaning and following infection control procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- Master's degree required.
- Speech & Language Pathologist license required.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Prior experience in long-term care or skilled nursing facilities is preferred.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
The position requires physical and mental capabilities typical of a Speech Language Pathologist, including combinations of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required, with assistance needed for heavier weights. Some stress may arise from the high level of responsibility for maintaining quality care.
