TITLE: Deputy Chief Systems EngineerLOCATION: McLean, VACLEARANCE REQUIRED: Active DoD TS/SCI with CI PolygraphEMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time, On-siteTRAVEL: Up to 25%POSITION SUMMARYModern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Deputy Chief Systems Engineer to serve as the Deputy to the Chief Engineer, leading mission-critical engineering initiatives that power large-scale Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads and enterprise infrastructure. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to oversee the design, deployment, and security of scalable platforms across Kubernetes, Linux, and hybrid data center environments. The Senior Technical Product Manager will collaborate with engineering, operations, security teams, and Project Managers to ensure technical excellence, compliance, and reliable delivery while driving innovation and continuous improvement across complex mission systems.RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):Provide technical leadership and oversight for the design, deployment, and sustainment of secure, scalable infrastructure supporting AI and hybrid cloud environments.Partner with engineering, operations, and security teams to deliver Datacenter-as-a-Service (DCaaS) solutions while ensuring compliance with DoD and IC standards.Lead large-scale technical projects from planning through delivery, managing scope, schedule, risk, and change in Agile or hybrid environments.Support Authorization to Operate (ATO) activities, troubleshoot complex system issues, and drive optimization through automation and monitoring tools.Act as a technical deputy to the Chief Engineer, mentoring technical staff, fostering collaboration, and promoting continuous improvement across engineering initiatives.REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSMust possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.8–10 years of experience leading complex technical programs or systems engineering projects across AI, cloud, or data center environments.Proven ability to lead technical delivery teams through full lifecycle, design, implementation, and sustainment.Experience managing ATO/RMF accreditation efforts and maintaining ongoing security compliance.Demonstrated experience in implementing Linux systems, Kubernetes, and core infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Networking, Storage).Strong background in risk management, resource planning, and technical delivery oversight for large-scale infrastructure programs.Excellent communication and leadership skills with experience interfacing across engineering, operations, program management, and executive teams.Ability to travel up to 20–25% for on-site technical support, installations, and team collaboration.PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSPossess a current IAM Level II certification (e.g., Security CE, CAP, CASP) per DoD 8570 IAT requirements.Experience delivering Datacenter-as-a-Service (DCaaS) or similar enterprise-scale infrastructure programs.Background in hybrid or multi-tenant architectures, cloud modernization, or AI/ML platform support.Familiarity with cloud and security accreditation frameworks (FedRAMP, DoD, or IC standards).Experience in change management, continuous improvement, and process optimization within technical environments.Demonstrated mentorship experience or previous Deputy Chief Engineer or Systems Integration Lead role.Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools (Grafana, Splunk, AppDynamics, DynaTrace).Commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to emerging technologies in AI and cloud-native infrastructure.*Applicants selected will be United States citizens and may be subject to a government security investigation for access to classified information.*ABOUT USAt MGS, we believe a people-first culture corresponds to organizational success through a commitment to excellence, integrity, inclusion, and an attitude that welcomes challenges meets demands, sustains growth, and drives innovation.
