Medical Records Clerk - HIM

Position Overview

Mobridge Regional Hospital & Clinics is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Medical Records Clerk to support the management of confidential patient health information. This position is responsible for accurately scanning and maintaining medical records, processing health information requests, and providing professional service to patients, providers, and hospital staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately scan and index documents into the electronic health record.
• Process requests for patient health information according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Complete health information requests accurately and in a timely manner.
• Obtain required patient or authorized representative signatures for release of information.
• Maintain accurate documentation of health information requests and records released.
• Respond to telephone inquiries in a courteous, professional, and accurate manner.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, family, provider, and hospital information.
• Communicate effectively with HIM, Business Office, nursing, medical staff, and other hospital departments.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
• Follow hospital policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Participate in department education and performance improvement activities.
• Assist other staff as needed and perform additional duties as assigned by the HIM Director.

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Professional and courteous communication skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with patients, providers, and staff.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic health record systems.
• Current CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification through Mobridge Regional Hospital & Clinics when offered.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to read and review medical records and other written documentation accurately.
• Near vision sufficient to perform detailed record review and computer work.
• Ability to perform light lifting as required.
