What are the responsibilities and job description for the On-Call Organ Transplant Escort position at Mobile Network 24?
Mobile Network 24
Position: On-Call Kidney Transplant Escort
Employment Type: Part-Time / On-Call
Travel: Frequent Commercial Airline Travel
About the Position
Mobile Network 24 is seeking dependable, professional individuals to serve as On-Call Kidney Transplant Escorts. This is a unique opportunity to become part of the organ transplant process and directly contribute to helping save lives.
Kidney Transplant Escorts are responsible for accompanying donated kidneys during transportation on commercial airlines and ensuring the organ is safely transported from its pickup location to the designated transplant center or other approved destination.
This is not a traditional job with predictable hours. Organ donation occurs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Missions may arise with little notice and can require travel during nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
The Kidney Transplant Escort will:
- Respond to on-call mission requests and be prepared to travel with limited notice.
- Travel throughout the United States using commercial airlines.
- Take custody of packaged kidneys and associated transport equipment at designated pickup locations.
- Maintain continuous possession and control of the organ while traveling.
- Ensure the kidney is handled carefully and remains secure throughout the entire transportation process.
- Navigate airline check-in, TSA security screening, connections, ground transportation, and other travel logistics.
- Maintain communication with Mobile Network 24 dispatch throughout the mission.
- Provide timely status updates at important points during transportation.
- Immediately communicate any flight delays, cancellations, missed connections, security issues, or other circumstances that could affect delivery.
- Coordinate with OPO personnel, transplant centers, couriers, airline personnel, and other individuals involved in the transportation process.
- Personally deliver the kidney to the authorized individual or facility and complete the required chain-of-custody process.
- Follow all Mobile Network 24 policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and organ transportation protocols.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate understands that reliability is critical. These missions involve lifesaving donated organs, and the individual accepting a mission must understand the importance of completing that mission safely and efficiently.
Candidates should be:
- Dependable and highly responsible.
- Comfortable traveling independently throughout the United States.
- Able to navigate airports and commercial airline systems confidently.
- Available for irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Able to respond to missions with limited advance notice.
- Comfortable with last-minute changes, delays, cancellations, and other travel disruptions.
- Capable of remaining calm and making sound decisions in stressful situations.
- Professional when interacting with transplant professionals, hospital personnel, airline employees, TSA personnel, and donor organizations.
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality regarding donor, recipient, and transplant information.
- Detail-oriented and capable of following specific instructions and chain-of-custody procedures.
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a valid government-issued driver's license or identification acceptable for commercial airline travel.
- Meet current TSA identification requirements for commercial airline travel.
- Be legally able to travel throughout the United States.
- Have reliable transportation to and from the designated departure airport.
- Have a reliable cell phone and maintain communication throughout an assigned mission.
- Be physically capable of transporting the organ container and associated equipment through airports and other facilities.
- Successfully complete Mobile Network 24 training before independently accepting missions.
- Be willing to complete any required background screening.
Previous experience in healthcare, EMS, organ donation/transplantation, aviation, transportation, logistics, public safety, or professional courier operations is beneficial but not required.
Schedule
This is an on-call position. There are no guaranteed traditional shifts or standard working hours.
Kidney transportation missions are time-sensitive and may become available at any hour. Candidates should understand that accepting an assignment may involve extended travel, connecting flights, overnight stays, and unexpected schedule changes.
Because donated organs have limited preservation time, punctuality and reliability are essential.
Why This Job Matters
This is more than transporting a package.
Every kidney entrusted to Mobile Network 24 represents a donor's lifesaving gift and a transplant recipient waiting for another chance at life.
Our Kidney Transplant Escorts become an important link between organ donation and transplantation. The person accepting a mission is trusted to protect that gift and ensure it reaches the transplant team safely and as quickly as possible.
When you accept a mission, someone is waiting for you to arrive.
