Supervisory Responsibilities: All Field Operations staff on duty during the assigned shift

Objective: The primary duty of the Supervisor is to provide and facilitate the patient care process when acting in a supervisory capacity. The Supervisor is directly responsible for the actions of Field Operations staff on their assigned shifts.

Essential Duties:
▪Know and support the Mission Statement, Policy/Procedures and standards of MMR.
▪Responsible for directing new employees through the completion of the employee’s orientation and internship.
▪Act as a mentor for the Paramedics as well as active Field Operations Staff as the situation demands. Facilitates interaction between the Field Training Coordinator, Field Training Officers and the Intern. Function as a Field Training Coordinator and oversee the orientation process of new employees, facilitate tracking of reports, performance reviews and monitor progression through the field training and orientation process. Facilitate this process until a new employee is placed with a lead Field Training Officer.
▪Supervise the proper flow of documentation regarding each Intern.
▪Review and act upon, as necessary, all incidents, accidents, deviations/exceptions and other reports forwarded from Field Operations Staff or the Communication Center.
▪Ensure that vehicles and equipment are assigned to Field Personnel, and mobilize additional resources when system demands require it.
▪Keep informed of events in the field affecting MMR, including accidents, injuries, breach of policy, inter-agency relations, morale, newsworthy events and superior/inferior performance by Field Operations Staff.
▪Participate in capital budget item requests for salaries and equipment with his/her Director of Operations, upon request.
▪Audit payroll records bi-weekly and submits corrections.
▪Function as a Paramedic and adhere to the MMR Paramedic job description.
▪Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge, Skill and Competency Requirements:
    ▪Currently licensed in the State of Michigan as an EMT-Paramedic
    ▪Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver license and maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by MMR’s insurance carrier
    ▪Possess and maintain a current Healthcare Provider certification from American Heart Association
    ▪Obtain a trauma certification (PHTLS or ITLS) within 6 months of employment
    ▪Obtain a pediatrics certification from American Heart Association (PEPP, PEARS, or PALS) within 6 months of employment
    ▪Obtain certification from American Heart Association as ACLS provider within 6 months of employment
    ▪Obtain certification in EMS Safety within 6 months of employment
    ▪Possess FEMA NIMS IC-100.b, 200.b, 700 & 800.b upon hire
    ▪Obtain NIMS ISC 300 and 400 within one year
    ▪Must meet all requirements of the MMR Paramedic, including Specialty Care Transport (SCT) and Field Training Officer (FTO) certificationsAdvanced computer skills including the ability to utilize a computer PC with Windows operating system
    ▪Ability to operate office equipment, including but not limited to, copier, fax machine, scanner, monitor, multi-line telephone, printer, typewriter and calculator
    ▪Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
    ▪Skilled in typing, data entry, electronic filing, document retrieval and advanced map applications
    ▪Maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by MMR’s insurance carrier
    ▪Ability to drive in accordance with MMR standards. Pass all driver examinations, both written an oral road tests
    ▪Ability to serve as an effective role model for subordinates
    ▪Knowledgeable about vehicle and equipment maintenance
    ▪Ability to make quick, life-saving decisions
    ▪Ability to gain respect from others
    ▪Ability to minimize stress while on duty by identifying problems before they occur and effectively deal with stressful situations that occur
    ▪Ability to keep in contact via phone or email while off-duty in case of disaster situation call-ins
    ▪Flexibility in work schedule to meet the demands of the company
    ▪Ability to report within one hour when requested
    ▪Required to attend scheduled and called meetings
    ▪Encouraged to begin course work towards an Associate’s degree or ASM Certification program
    ▪Ability to effectively express oneself in the English language, both verbally and written, in order to communicate with medical and lay personnel
    ▪Must complete initial and annual Bloodborne Pathogens Training
    ▪Must be at least 18 years old

    Physical Factors: Must be able to lift a minimum of 265 pounds (175 lb. patient and approximately 90 lb. stretcher) with assistance from one other qualified individual. (This ability is quantified through a physical ability test). Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds, by yourself, at a waist high level and carry a distance without pausing. (This ability is quantified through a physical ability test). Has visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye, with corrective lenses and a field of vision in the horizontal meridian not less than a total 140 degrees; ability to distinguish traffic colors (red, green, amber); hearing should be adequate in the better ear for conversational tones without the use of hearing aids. Due to the unpredictability of this type of organization, it is not always possible to guarantee meal and/or break periods. Therefore, the person must have no physical condition that would prohibit him/her from working 12 hours without a break, and/or an uninterrupted meal period. Meet minimum requirements of MMR post-employment physical examination, physical ability test and drug screen.

    Working Conditions: Hours of work may vary to include early mornings, late evenings and weekends. Frequently, when responding to a location, the individual will sit in an emergency vehicle. The emergency vehicles are equipped with a vehicle seat. Frequent to continuous standing and walking when responding to calls, going to and from the emergency vehicle, getting patients to and from their locations and rendering treatment. Walking and running may vary. Standing, walking and running could be on all types of surfaces including, but not limited to, asphalt, cement, concrete, soft/packed dirt, linoleum, wood, etc. Frequently lifting, carrying, bending, stopping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling, handling and grasping. Occasionally climbing. When responding to emergencies, can be exposed to dust, fumes, gases, fire, smoke, adverse weather conditions and chemicals. There is potential for bodily harm from violent patients, bystanders or other dangers. Frequently hectic work with exposure to highly emotional situations.
