Location: New York, NY | Denver, CO | Houston, TX (Hybrid/Onsite)

Experience Level: Experienced Professional (5 Years, Title commensurate with experience)

Company Overview & Business Unit Summary

MNI provides real-time macroeconomic and financial market intelligence delivered directly to the world's leading institutional trading desks, central banks, and investment firms. We are a team of analysts and former traders predominantly from the buyside and sellside providing high-frequency analysis of fixed income, foreign exchange, credit and commodities markets.

MNI is seeking experienced and enthusiastic analysts to join its North American commodities business. This is a rare, entrepreneurial opportunity to help spearhead our US energy service. Backed by MNI's global infrastructure and a rapidly expanding client base—spanning upstream producers, major midstream operators, downstream refiners, commodity trading desks, hedge funds and global investment banks— our analysts provide key insights across the physical and financial energy ecosystem.

The Opportunity

As a North American Gas Analyst, you will be a definitive voice on North American natural gas and LNG markets for our institutional clients. We are seeking an entrepreneurial self-starter who is genuinely enthusiastic and passionate about natural gas markets—someone who is naturally motivated to build a service because they are deeply fascinated by infrastructure, energy, and supply/demand pricing mechanics.

While you will operate with a high degree of independence over your day-to-day coverage, you will be part of a highly collaborative team dynamic. You will bridge the gap between complex fundamental modeling and high-velocity, real-time market intelligence. If you thrive on the excitement of live trading cycles and enjoy tracking physical molecules across infrastructure networks, then this role provides an exceptional opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and dissect live natural gas market developments, price action, and infrastructure disruptions, translating them instantly into concise, impactful commentary for our subscriber platform.
  • Track and interpret daily/intra-day pipeline nomination cycles, regional gas balances, and maintenance schedules to predict shifts in physical trade flows.
  • Analyze domestic LNG trade flows, liquefaction utilization, and global arbitrage dynamics (Henry Hub vs. international benchmarks) to provide a holistic market view.
  • Build, refine, and leverage proprietary supply/demand fundamental models to anticipate structural market shifts and seasonal storage trends.
  • Actively participate in internal team knowledge-sharing sessions, leveraging your gas expertise alongside our macro and oil analysts to formulate cohesive, cross-commodity market perspectives.
  • Engage directly with MNI's institutional client base, answering questions about market moves and providing context on market changes.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 5 years of dedicated experience analyzing, trading, scheduling, or researching North American energy commodities, with a demonstrable track record of navigating physical natural gas market dynamics.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; candidates must be highly numerate, analytically minded, and comfortable working with complex energy data sets.
  • A proven capability to quickly interpret unexpected physical market anomalies (e.g., infrastructure outages, pricing blowouts, flow disruptions) and translate them into immediate, logical conclusions for market participants coupled with a self-motivated work ethic.
  • Exceptional writing skills with a proven ability to lean on your deep industry experience to instantly distill complex physical market data and data points into sharp, clear, and actionable insights under tight, real-time deadlines.
  • Advanced understanding of gas pipeline nominations, regional balances (Permian, Appalachia, Haynesville, Western Canada), LNG export dynamics, and physical trade flows.
  • Strong client engagement skills, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to articulate complex market themes directly to institutional market participants.
  • A strong desire to work in an environment where shared expertise is critical; the ability to work highly independently while seamlessly collaborating with other experienced market professionals to drive optimal research conclusions.

Why Join MNI?

  • You will have a major seat at the table in building out a premium commodities product, with high internal and external visibility.
  • Collaborate with and work alongside seasoned energy professionals who hold significant, deep-rooted experience in the oil and gas markets.
  • Direct, daily exposure to institutional clients across the entire energy value chain.
  • Our physical office is currently based in NYC but offers remote/hybrid working option.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive remuneration including annual discretionary bonus based on individual performance and company metrics.
  • MNI offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, paid time off (PTO), holiday pay, and flexible/remote work arrangements.
