About This Position
The Behavior Technician (“BT”) position will be responsible for providing positive, compassionate, supportive services to people with complex behavioral, developmental, and/or mental health needs in an individual or group home setting, in a 1:1 or 2:1 staffing ratio, determined by the individual’s care plan. The individuals served may be minors (under 18 years of age), adults, or the elderly.
Location: Owatonna, MN
Reports to: Designated Coordinator (“DC”, “House Manager”)
Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour during training, $25.00 working in-ratio with individuals served
Available Schedule: Full-Time and Part-Time shifts
Essential work and job duties, including but not limited to…
- Assist individuals with daily activities, like personal care, meal preparation, transportation to appointments or events, and engaging with their community, all while advocating for and encouraging their independence
- Maintain positive working relationship with peers, Designated Coordinator, Designated Manager, and MN Care Services Leadership
- Work with individuals to overcome challenges with a person-centered approach and compassionate care
- Complete and maintain accurate documentation related to the individual, as well as complete and maintain accurate, required compliance reporting
- Maintain a clean, safe space in partnership with the individual served, ensuring comfort, support, and goal achievement
- Provide supervision, positive reinforcement, and guidance to the individual served so they may thrive, grow, and enjoy their life
- Other duties and responsibilities as needed
Required Education, Skills and Abilities
- Must be 21 years of age
- Compassion and ability to advocate for and empower people with non-linear life paths
- One of the three educational requirements below, with additional training, certifications, and leadership experience considered:
o Four-year degree in a related field, such as but not limited to human services, social work, healthcare, nursing, or psychology
o Two-year degree in a related field, with two years of experience working with individuals with complex behavioral and/or mental health needs, in a residential, group home, behavioral health, or psychiatric setting
o High School Diploma or GED plus 2-3 years of applicable experience serving individuals with behavioral needs
- Ability to successfully complete a Background Study with fingerprinting
- Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record
- Clear communicator through verbal, written, and electronic means (e.g. Microsoft Office products, email, text messaging)
Additional Qualifications
- Previous employment experience in a Minnesota Statute 245D-regulated capacity helpful
- College degree in a related human and/or social services field plus additional, applicable experience serving individuals with behavioral needs
- Knowledge and experience with positive behavior support plans
- Experience working with people with complex mental health and/or behavioral conditions
