JOB DUTIES
Communicates with the Nurse Manager, Professional Nurse, CNA regarding patient and personnel needs.
Reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person.
Answers the telephone and intercom, takes messages and follows through.
Maintains intradepartmental communications
Information is given verbally or written and is received with the desired result.
Schedules patient start of care and follow-up visits with input of the Professional Nurse.
Schedules diagnostic tests and obtains insurance prioauthorization if necessary.
Enters specimens and consults in order entry.
Confers with departments regarding scheduling of patient's activities and procedures.
Prepares and updates patient's current records.
Accuracy of medical chart labeled correctly.
Reports are properly filed.
Obtains records according to policies and procedures. Including patient demographics, insurance referral/authorizations, and billing information.
Registers patient correctly.
Assists Professional Nurse in preparation of monthly update if needed.
Performs non-clinical duties of Nursing Assistant in his/her absence.
Assists in cost containment by proper ordering, use, and charging of supplies and equipment.
Accurately enters department charges daily in order entry.
Maintains all department manuals.
Takes and maintains unit meeting minutes.
Possesses knowledge and understanding of interacting with payors, referral sources, and community groups serving as a resource.
Responsible for acquiring and demonstrating a level of skill with computers, fax, printers and all office equipment
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
Communication skills necessary to effectively:
Be able to receive instructions.
Provide instructions to the patient and/or significant other
Provide explanations to the patient and/or significant other
Communicate clearly with other members of the health care team
Ability to interact with patients, families, and others often during stressful situations.
Ability to concentrate and prioritize.
Analytical skills necessary to solve clerical problems in the department.
Workable knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office.
Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.
