SUMMARY
Responsible for all of the tasks of a Dental Assistant. The scope of the work encompasses a variety of clinical duties which promote effective and efficient operation of the practice and fosters favorable public relations with patients, staff, dentists of the practice and all external customers. An EFDA will work under the direct supervision of the Dentist and/or Director-Dental Center and may perform a specific set of services within their scope of profession practice. Also assisting with clerical duties of the Dental Center as needed.
JOB DUTIES
Performs clinical functions that provide support to the office.
Morning procedure of turning on equipment including: ultrasonics, autoclave, operatory chairs, computers and x-ray scanner.
Fabricating, placing and removing temporary crowns or temporary bridges.
Place and remove matrices, rubber dams and wedges.
Apply cavity liners and bases.
Place, condense, carve and contour amalgam restorations.
Place and finish composite resin restorations. Place sealants.
Place Silver Diamine Fluoride as directed by the dentist.
Perform coronal polishing.
Performs fluoride treatments, including fluoride varnish.
Takes impressions of teeth, athletic appliances or occlusal guards.
Maintains clean treatment rooms in compliance with all CDC and OSHA regulations.
Set up and turn over room in efficient manner.
Is aware of schedule changes, and other procedures in order to prioritize actions.
Maintains inventory control by notifying person responsible for ordering.
Adhere to all OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
Maintains CPR, radiology certificate, and CE credit hours to maintain EFDA certification.
Assist in front office when time allows.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Strength: Light Work - Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling 20 Lbs. occasionally, frequently up to 10 Lbs., or negligible amount constantly. Can include walking and or standing frequently even though weight is negligible. Can include pushing and or pulling of arm and or leg controls.
Reaching: Frequently - Extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
Handling: Frequently - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as to turn a switch or shift automobile gears.
Fingering: Frequently - Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
Talking: Frequently - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Hearing: Frequently - Perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.
Near Acuity: Frequently - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
Accommodation: Frequently - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye.
Color Vision: Frequently - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of Expanded Functions Dental Assistant program.
State Radiology Certificate.
Active State EFDA license.
6 months of dental assistant experience required or completion of externship.
Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature changes. Subject to certain patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases. May be exposed to potential hazards such as chemical wastes, radiation (x-rays) body fluids and other possible infectious material.
