SUMMARY
To provide for enhanced patient and staff safety.
JOB DUTIES
Reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (physician, manager, supervisor, etc.) Records these observations, changes and reactions accurately.
As required, and under the supervision of the RN, communicates with and serves as a liaison between patient’s family and physician.
Performs routine safety measures to maintain safe/therapeutic environment.
Demonstrates knowledge of and implements policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing departments.
Uses effective communication, intervention, problem solving, and crisis management skills.
Demonstrates cost conscious use of supplies; maintains equipment in a clean and safe manner
Monitors patient one: one when required.
Frequently makes rounds and performs errands when requested.
Knowledgeable of the importance of the patient safety assessment.
Safely manages the physically acting out patient and is knowledgeable of safe restraint techniques.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SPECIFIC JOB DEMANDS
Strength: Heavy Work -Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling 50 - 100 Lbs. occasionally, 20 - 50 Lbs. frequently, 10 - 20 Lbs. constantly.
Climbing: Occasionally - Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet, and legs or hands and arms. Body agility is important.
Stooping: Frequently - Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
Kneeling: Frequently - Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees.
Crouching: Frequently - Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
Reaching: Frequently - Extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
Handling: Frequently - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as to turn a switch or shift automobile gears.
Talking: Occasionally - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Hearing: Occasionally - Perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.
Near Acuity: Occasionally - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Accommodation: Frequently - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye.
Color Vision: Frequently - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience in healthcare, psychiatric and/or security field preferred.
Ability to communicate with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Provides assistance, instruction, and explanation to patient and/or significant other.
Collect data and provide input to nursing.
Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Patient care/hospital environment. A large part of work time is standing or walking. Subject to certain distasteful patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases. May be exposed to potential hazards such as physical contact with patients, chemicals, body wastes, fluids and other possible infectious material.
