The Opportunity:
Our client, a manufacturing organization in Houston, TX has partnered with ML6 in their search for an Electrical Applications Engineer to join their team. In this role, you would play a critical role in ensuring every project starts on solid technical footing. You'll partner closely with the Sales team to review customer RFQs, specifications, and technical requirements, helping define accurate project scope, identify risks early, and deliver technically sound proposals.
This role bridges Sales and Engineering, ensuring projects transition seamlessly from quote to execution while reducing downstream issues for Project Management, Engineering, and Manufacturing.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Review customer RFQs, specifications, one-line diagrams, and technical drawings to develop accurate project scope.
- Identify technical risks, scope gaps, missing information, and specification conflicts before quotes are released.
- Support Sales by preparing technical comments, clarifications, exceptions, assumptions, and exclusions for customer proposals.
- Recommend appropriate switchgear, motor control, and power distribution solutions based on customer requirements and company standards.
- Participate in customer, vendor, and internal technical discussions to resolve application questions during the quoting process.
- Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Quality to ensure a smooth technical handoff from quote to project execution.
- Help develop standardized application checklists, specification review processes, and best practices that improve quote quality and reduce project risk.
- Continuously improve front-end engineering processes by capturing lessons learned and refining technical review standards.
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience with electrical applications, estimating, or design of power distribution equipment, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), industrial controls, or similar products.
- Experience with OEM switchgear, MCCs, or power distribution equipment.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications, one-line diagrams, RFQs, and technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of power distribution equipment, electrical protection, control schemes, and major electrical components.
- Ability to identify technical risks, scope gaps, and clarification requirements before projects are released for execution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Project Management.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with a proactive approach to solving technical challenges.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems, quote configuration tools, or manufacturer selection software.
- Experience supporting technical sales or applications engineering in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, UL, NEMA, and NEC standards.
- Experience reviewing RFQs and preparing technical scope for quotations.
Salary : $90,000 - $115,000
