Position Overview
A leading general contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent with strong rehabilitation and renovation experience to lead complex projects in San Jose and the South Bay. This role is ideal for a field leader who excels in occupied, phased, and technically challenging rehab environments, where coordination, planning, and problem-solving are critical to success.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record managing interior renovations, adaptive reuse, and building upgrades, often within active facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Execution
- Lead all onsite construction activities for rehab and renovation projects from demolition through turnover.
- Manage Assistant Superintendents, field staff, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate multiple trades in tight, constrained environments.
- Drive daily production and maintain accountability across the jobsite.
Phasing & Occupied Construction
- Plan and execute complex phased construction in occupied buildings.
- Coordinate shutdowns, tie-ins, and minimal-disruption construction activities.
- Work closely with building owners, tenants, and facility teams.
Scheduling & Problem Solving
- Develop and manage detailed schedules and short-interval lookaheads.
- Identify unforeseen conditions and implement solutions quickly.
- Maintain schedule performance despite field constraints.
Quality & Safety
- Ensure all work meets plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Conduct inspections and manage punch list and closeout.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on site.
Team & Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with Project Managers, engineers, and design teams.
- Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and daily huddles.
- Serve as the primary onsite contact for clients and consultants.
- Mentor and develop junior field staff.
Qualifications
- 10 years of construction experience with a strong focus on rehab / renovation projects.
- Proven experience as a Lead or Senior Superintendent on complex renovation work.
- Experience working in occupied or phased construction environments.
- Strong understanding of building systems, tie-ins, and retrofit challenges.
- Excellent leadership, scheduling, and problem-solving skills.
