Duties
- Operate various polishing equipment and hand tools to achieve smooth, polished surfaces on metal parts and assemblies
- Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and dial gauges to verify surface quality and dimensions
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand polishing requirements
- Collaborate with fabrication and assembly teams to prepare components for final finishing processes
- Conduct quality inspections to ensure surfaces meet specified standards using visual assessment and measurement tools
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring safety protocols are followed during polishing operations
- Assist in setting up tooling, fixtures, and polishing machines for different projects as needed
Requirements
- Proven experience with polishing techniques on metal components in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- Mechanical knowledge of machining processes including CNC laser cutting, CNC milling machines, CNC lathe, plasma cutting, electrical discharge machining (EDM), stamping presses, press brake machines, and welding is highly desirable
- Familiarity with blueprint reading, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and basic math skills for precise measurements
- Ability to operate hand tools such as grinders, sanders, files, and polishing wheels safely and effectively
- Experience with quality inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes and tooling setup is a plus
- Ability to work with cranes or forklifts for material handling when necessary
- Strong mechanical aptitude combined with excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship skills
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials safely, and perform repetitive tasks efficiently
