A rapidly expanding company is seeking an experienced Director of Revenue Accounting to lead all revenue-related financial activities. This leader will serve as the primary steward of accurate revenue reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, driving integrity across the close process, and partnering closely with cross-functional teams that influence the company’s revenue lifecycle. This is a highly visible role with broad impact on financial operations and strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Own the revenue accounting function, including the development and maintenance of recognition policies and internal processes.
- Evaluate customer, sales, leasing, and service agreements to determine appropriate revenue treatment.
- Oversee revenue integrations between billing platforms and the general ledger to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Lead the monthly revenue close process, including deferred revenue entries, trend reviews, reserve calculations, and billing system reconciliations.
- Build strong working relationships with teams across operations, collections, cash management, IT, and treasury to support accurate and timely reporting.
- Prepare internal and external revenue reports and deliver meaningful analysis to leadership and stakeholders.
- Partner with accounting, tax, and legal groups to align revenue practices with broader organizational activities.
- Serve as the point lead for revenue accounting during system upgrades, conversions, or billing platform migrations.
- Contribute to company-wide process improvement efforts and cross-functional systems projects.
- Support reporting tied to asset-backed financing structures.
- Maintain adherence to internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with external and internal auditors, providing documentation and insights as needed.
- Lead and mentor a team, fostering development, accountability, and strong performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline (advanced degree preferred).
- CPA, CTP, CFA, or related professional certification strongly preferred.
- 8–10 years of progressive experience in revenue accounting or technical accounting roles, including at least 5 years in people leadership.
- Deep knowledge of ASC 606 and modern revenue recognition practices.
- Experience working with complex revenue models (e.g., subscription services, bundled offerings, equipment sales, long-term service agreements, IRU arrangements).
- Background with large ERP environments; PeopleSoft or similar highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting systems.
- Proven analytical ability and strong problem-solving mindset.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to operate strategically and execute in a fast-paced environment.
