- As a member of MITRE’s Center for Transforming Health, the candidate would provide support to the Health Policy department, supporting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the National Institute of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other Federal Civilian Agencies as needed.
- This position requires a basic understanding in health policy (discerning and identifying implications of policy or regulatory choices, projected outcomes, sector impacts, etc.), public health, health information technology, privacy, and other health-related government initiatives.
- Experience drafting or interpreting regulations will significantly help the candidate succeed in this role. As a member of the Federal Programs department, the graduate intern will support project teams in thinking about legal and regulatory considerations, rule writing, program evaluation, and qualitative/quantitative research.
- An example of previous projects in this department includes the CMS Division of Value, Incentives, and Quality Reporting project where MITRE assists CMS in rule writing and regulatory research for eleven quality reporting and incentive programs in their Medicare FFS setting.
- In-person work at one of our locations is required – Baltimore or McLean.
- Enrolled fulltime in an accredited degree-seeking program pursuing a Masters, Legal, or Doctoral degree in Public Health, Global Health or related
- Subject matter expertise in public health, health organizational effectiveness, health communication, and other health-related government initiatives
- 1-2 years’ experience in the area of health policy at the federal, state or local level, developing, designing and implementing healthcare policies and programs, and providing healthcare thought leadership, or work in the health care sector, administrative, clinical, or information systems.
- Knowledge of state and federal public health laws and regulation processes.
- Capability in another health domain area (e.g., communication, analytics, information technology).
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
