Job Description:
The Advancement Office is hiring an Associate Director of Advancement to support all communications, marketing, and fundraising efforts for Mitchell’s Place. The role works closely with the Director of Advancement to administer the annual communications and marketing plan, fundraising, and overall organizational strategic plan.
Responsibilities (Include but not limited to):
Donor Centered Responsibilities:
- Helps promote a culture of philanthropy at Mitchell’s Place
- Responsible for ensuring information on stakeholders is up-to-date, accurate, and properly documented in the database and in all reports
- Record all donor interactions in Bloomerang (meetings, calls, email, etc.)
- Maintain donor confidentiality and follow the donor bill of rights
- Assist in all stewardship efforts, including for Junior Board members, community partners, sponsors and assigned donors
- Performs direct fundraising including phone outreach, email, texting and in-person visits to support the growth of the donor base
- Understands the donor life cycle in day-to-day work (and implements as required): identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Serves as main point of contact for Community Partnership program
- Identifies prospects through various mechanisms such as Book of Lists, local/regional media articles, meetings, etc.
- Assist with current family and alumni family cultivation, relationship management as needed
- Provide tours as required
- Serve as an ambassador for Mitchell’s Place in the community
- Helps support achieving fundraising goals for the department as required
Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all brand guidelines to ensure integrity of the MP brand
- Identify new prospects for Community Partnerships and cultivate relationships
- Responsible for updating materials related to the Community Partnership program
- Maintain existing relationships with local media entities to better promote Mitchell’s Place mission and special events; search for new opportunities to promote Mitchell’s Place
- Leads effort to increase monthly League of Potential donors
- Assists with all public relations initiatives
- Draft press releases as needed to increase awareness
- Executes digital strategy including oversight of social media platforms, web, and email communications
- Assists with mass emails in Bloomerang (event invitations, quarterly enewsletters, etc) as needed
- Regularly reviews analytics, adjusts messaging content to increase audience and engagement
- Collaborates with lead teachers and supervisors for social media content (Miracle Monday, Teachable Tuesday)
- Utilize social media scheduling tools
- Takes initiative to create unique content to supplement social media theme days
- Stay up to date on trends related to social media and communications
- Manage Mitchell’s Place website through WordPress: edits, new content, updating photos, and implementing Google analytics/key words/search engine optimization
- Ensure adherence to and assist with management of internal/external media consent policies
- Graphic design of flyers, direct mail, newsletters, event invitations, signage, etc.
- Assists the Director of Advancement with annual appeals including (but not limited to) Giving Tuesday, Fall Direct Mail, April Autism Mailer, and Alumni Wall
- Assist with writing grants and preparing necessary documentation; help maintain spreadsheet and ensure actions are documented in Bloomerang
- Assist with the implementation of marketing strategy for Mitchell’s Place and goal setting for future fiscal years
Event Planning and Volunteer Management Responsibilities:
- Lead sponsorship efforts for all major fundraising events including A Night at the Oscars, Funky Fish Fry, Dragon Boat Race & Festival, MP Chili Championship Golf Tournament, etc
- Research new prospects, reach out to past sponsors, cultivate existing relationships
- Update sponsor benefits materials
- Assists with RSVP duties for all major events including A Night at the Oscars, Dragon Boats, Funky Fish Fry, Golf Tournament, and TTTF Wine Auction
- Support and work events as assigned including: A Night at the Oscars, Dragon Boat Race & Festival, Funky Fish Fry, Mitchell's Chili Championship Golf Tournament, and Benefit Nights
- Assist with creating and execution of all communication/marketing plans for MP events
- Coordinate photography including creating shot lists
- Ensure sponsor signage, marketing benefits are executed accurately
- Assists by reviewing run of show/event scripts, ensuring all sponsors are including in public remarks
- Ensure post-event communications are executed to thank attendees and sponsors, share fundraising achievements, and access to event photos
- Invites key stakeholders (community partners, sponsors, governmental officials, etc.) to major events
- Oversees data entry into Greater Giving for A Night at the Oscars guest registration, check in and check out
- Serve as primary liaison to the TumTum Tree Foundation for the annual wine auction including management of the Greater Giving platform for auction and guest registration
- Helps with adherence to departmental budget to minimize expenses and maximize revenues
Additional Responsibilities:
- May supervise office intern(s) on all tasks and projects, provides necessary training for these individuals, feedback, and guidance
- May help supervise volunteers as needed
- Position will often interact with all other departments
- Assist the Advancement Department with other duties as assigned
Hours
Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm with occasional evenings/weekends as required. Must have reliable transportation.

Qualifications
- 3 years of direct fundraising and development experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree required and/or equivalent work experience in a key fundraising position
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Ability and confidence to interact with varied constituencies
- A self-motivated team-player who can energize and lead both staff and volunteers
- Dedication, flexibility, attention to detail and creativity a must
- Must be comfortable working in donor databases
- Must be comfortable with technology. Prior proficiency is not required for all but must be able to learn and feel comfortable with the multiple technology platforms. Current platforms include:

About the Facility
Mitchell's Place is a non-profit, research-based treatment center that opened in 2005 and has become one of the premier providers of therapeutic interventions for autism spectrum disorder in the Birmingham area. The Mitchell's Place team includes speech therapy, occupational therapy, feeding therapy, psychology, applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy, and an early learning preschool. This allows for frequent collaboration and a multidisciplinary approach when needed for clients. Mitchell's Place has a well-developed reputation across the state of Alabama for providing services that improve the quality of life for our clients and their families.
