Recreation Aid for Disabled Adult

Now Hiring: Personal Assistant/Caregiver Support (Male Only) – Part-Time/Full-Time
Location: Santa Maria, CA
Pay: $32.00 - $36.00/hr. | ~20 hours per week
Flexible schedule | In-person position

We are currently seeking a dedicated, active, and compassionate male Personal Assistant to support an adult male client in the Santa Maria area.

A typical day includes helping with meals and household chores, hanging out and watching tv, and going on outings like walks in the park and bike rides.

Other responsibilities vary widely. Depending on your availability, interests, and client needs. You may be taking him to concerts, movies, sporting events, helping with community college classes, accompanying him to doctors appointments and therapy sessions, or other activities as the need arises.

Client is 6'2" 240 pounds. He loves sports, watching his favorite LA teams on tv and going to Cal Poly games. He likes listening to music, on the radio during car rides and going to concerts at the mid state fair. He also loves movies and food, and looks forward to going out for both on the weekends.

We are looking for someone who is patient, empathetic, and a good communicator. Someone who can be a motivational role model and work with him to foster self esteem and work towards more independence. Experience in special education would do well here, but anyone with a heart for the disabled is encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with healthy meal preparation
• Help maintain a clean and safe living environment through light housekeeping
• Transport the client to appointments, social outings, and community events
• Actively participate alongside the client in physical and recreational activities such as hiking, bowling, and bike rides
• Engage the client in meaningful conversation and leisure activities that promote emotional well-being and social connection
• Monitor for changes in the client’s physical, emotional, or behavioral condition and communicate observations to the appropriate parties
• Provide personal care assistance, including bathing, grooming, and dressing
• Track and document target behaviors and daily progress using basic data collection methods; familiarity with Excel or similar tools is helpful
• Maintain open and ongoing communication with the client’s therapeutic team, family members, and other service providers to ensure coordinated, consistent care

Qualifications:

• Male applicants only
• Must have your own reliable vehicle with a back seat suitable for client transport
• Vehicle should be clean and safe; must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and current car insurance
• Mileage reimbursement is provided for all work-related travel
• Ability and willingness to be physically active and involved in community activities with the client
• Friendly and upbeat demeanor, with a positive attitude
• Patient and empathetic
• Interest in or familiarity with professional sports is a plus
• Background or training in behavioral psychology or related fields is a bonus, though no experience is necessary
