Position Title:Early Childhood Special Education Occupational Therapist Location: Mitchell School Reports To:Special Education Director, Building Principal Position Start Date:August 2026 Required Certification:Current License Application Deadline:Will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found The Kittery School Department is seeking an Occupational Therapist for our Early Childhood Special education and pre-k program who possesses experience working with, evaluating, and supporting the IEP team in decision making for students ages 3, 4, and 5 years of age. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on a variety of teams and versatile in implementation of services. The ideal candidate will have experience working with families and community resources to support the referral process and be able to facilitate the timeline from referral to eligibility determinations. Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities Occupational Therapy direct services Evaluation of student needs in compliance with the IEP process Provide consultation to the special education and general education team Development and progress monitoring of Occupational Therapy Goals Assess learner progress through various methods. Collaborate with the comprehensive special education team at Mitchell School to create a cohesive delivery model in compliance with state and federal standards Build strong relationships with learners, parents, and colleagues. Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment that celebrates critical thinking, creativity, and innovation. Provide evaluations and services both within the Mitchell school as well as at community based locations. Participate in MTSS programming that includes classroom wide tier 1 instruction within the pre-k classrooms. Minimum Qualifications Current License as an Occupational Therapist Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Strong understanding of special education state and federal regulations Knowledge of Special Education Part C and school based services Experience in implementing research based teaching methodology based upon diagnostic needs assessment Proven ability to create an engaging learning environment. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in educational technology tools and software. A passion for innovation and fostering creativity in learners. Experience working with diverse learners. You must submit to a Criminal History Record Check through the State of Maine Education Department.
