Heavy Equipment Operator
Mitchell Outdoor & Design – Dowagiac, MI
Pay: $28.00–$38.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Higher wages available for exceptional operators with extensive grading and excavation experience.

Our crews work on a variety of commercial and residential projects throughout Southwest Michigan, including site development, grading, excavation, drainage, landscape construction, and snow removal.
What You’ll Do
Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including:
· Large Excavator
· Loader
· Bulldozer
· Skid steer
· Front-end loader
· Dump truck
· Compactor
· Other construction equipment as needed
Perform work such as:
· Fine grading and finishing
· Landscaping support
· Sloping and banking
· Excavating & sub-grade excavating
· Sub-grade rolling
· Backfilling
· Ditching
· Rough and finish grading
· Trenching
· Drainage installation
· Demolition
· Snow removal during the winter season
Responsibilities
· Safely operate heavy equipment on commercial and residential job sites.
· Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, grades, and project specifications.
· Perform daily equipment inspections and complete inspection reports.
· Clean, grease, fuel, and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
· Assist crew members with general labor when equipment operation is not required.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
· Complete daily job documentation including hours, equipment usage, and production.
· Follow OSHA safety practices and all company policies and procedures.
· Represent Mitchell Outdoor & Design professionally while interacting with customers and coworkers.
Requirements
· Valid Class A or B CDL. Air brake Endorsement preferred but not required.
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
· Experience with grading, excavation, and site work.
· Ability to read blueprints, site plans, and specifications.
· Strong understanding of safe equipment operation.
· Excellent attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
· Reliable, dependable, and punctual.
· Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
· Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
· Climb on and off equipment frequently.
· Work outdoors in all types of Michigan weather.
· Work around heavy equipment, traffic, and construction hazards.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical labor as needed.
