Nature of Work
An employee will assist the bus driver with transporting students to and from school in a safe and efficient manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures safety and care of students boarding, riding, and departing the school bus.
- Maintains a high standard of student conduct at all times.
- Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus; monitor and assist students while the bus is in operation.
- Consult with and assist the bus driver in documentation of student information and recordkeeping.
- Ensure students are properly secured in seat belts, harnesses, and wheelchairs, as required.
- Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of students.
- Communicate with classroom teachers, teacher assistants, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior, as appropriate.
- Ensure all incidents are properly reported and documented.
- Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
- Assist students on and off the bus; assure a responsible adult meets students leaving the bus.
- Complies with the transportation safety standards set by the State of North Carolina and Mitchell County Schools.
- Attends and successfully completes all training activities, as required, to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties.
- Discharge students only at authorized stops and transports authorized students only.
- Complies with local and state traffic regulations and observes all mandatory safety regulations.
- Reports all incidents and accidents.
- Keeps the interior of the bus clean.
- Maintains regular attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.

Salary : $29,000 - $41,000
